Swearing Versus Chatspeak

This is a rant.
It is long-ish.
If you'd rather just skip to the bottom with the recap, go ahead.
But maybe you've got enough time to read.

So, recently I was browsing through the Kupipages and I came across a page that asked the general public to state,
blatantly and honestly, if the public liked her or not. I won't say who or where, but it's there. Look for yourselves
you lazy bumpkins.
Anyway, I was reading through the comments (this person didn't seem well-liked...) and I came across one that dealt
with swearing.
Now, right then and there I had to stop. I, myself, cuss like a sailor. No, I don't type out swears often (can't be
bothered to) but in my day to day life, I swear, yet no one has ever slapped me on the wrist and told me not to.
But that's not what bothered me. What really got me was that the person who made the comment couldn't even write out
the whole damn words in the sentence. It was botched and butchered letters strung together in haphazard words that
don't make sense at first glance. For someone like me who speed-reads, it's a pain. "u" and "ur" sound, in my head,
exactly as they are spelled, and I'm sorry, but I'd rather read a slew of swears than struggle through a hoard of
"ur's" and "plz's."
That is one reason among many why I am not so active on Kupika anymore. I'd like to be able to meet someone capable of
typing out complete words on a regular basis, but I've found maybe one or two people who actually do.
I'm not criticizing those with bad spelling or a condition that would cause them to not be able to type perfectly all
the time; I don't even do that. But at least a little effort would be nice (punctuation would be a blessing)

And so I pose this question to you:
Which do you find more intolerable? Chatspeak or swearing?
I'm not expecting any replies, but I'm curious.

Chatspeak is definitely a lot worse for me. It's like, take an extra millisecond
and type a few more letters. It's not that hard. Swearing doesn't even phase me.
The worst chatspeak "word" I've seen is "dun". From the people's usage of it, I
assume it means don't. For goodness sakes. When did bad spelling become cool? I
lost a lot of my faith in my generation when I had to peer-correct another students
paper in English class. This person used chatspeak in a paper that she was going to
turn in for an actual grade. O.O What happened to the world?

THANK YOU.
I totally agree, although I use "dun" sometimes when I feel like being lazy or typing
as I talk.
I despise "ttly". It doesn't even make sense when you read it as it is!

Thank you for expressing your views.

I hate chatspeak.
It's horrible, and it gives me a huge headache.

Why can't people be literate?
D:

xeinotsu says: 15 July 2007
Because they're lazy?

I love how the only people who've commented are literate.
xD

I prefer cussing over chatspeak D= Though I hate when people combine the two. Last
night, this girl kept saying, 'go 2 hel dum bich' and it was like, "If you're going
to insult me, do it right. Otherwise, I won't really care." I then found out she was
twelve, not that it makes the situation better, it actually makes it worse D= I've
never heard twelve year old kids curse XD
Sometimes, though, I'll say 'Dun' or something along the lines D=
xeinotsu says: 15 July 2007
I have so many stories where people cuss me out in chatspeak.
xD
Dun is acceptable as long as it's used in moderation or the Batman song.

Oooh, Batman song =D I thought it was 'dun' and then a bunch of 'uns' D=

I don't really like chat-speak either, and cussing is just eh to me I don't like it
and I don't really cuss very often but it's not like cussing bothers me.
I think chat-speak generally makes people sound like they're in first grade and just
learning how to type >.<
I do say "dunno" instead of "I don't know" sometimes though but, that's how I say it
when I'm just speaking to someone imformally in real life so, I guess I just type how
I talk sometimes XD
(The 'Japangilish' does get a little annoying if used too much but, again, it doesn't
bother me.)

Wow 0.0 I just saw when this was dated. Why did I just see it now?
The world may never know....

I myself slip the occasional "dun" or "I unno" but, I would much prefer
swearing..chatspeak is so hard to read. It's like another language!

I actually am guilty of using chatspeak in the past.
But those days are long gone. If someone messages me here on Kupika
and says something like "hey wassap wnna b my friend?" I will tell them
to learn to type a sentence in English and then send em another message.

Another thing I can't stand is when people type like this: hEy WhAtS uP?!"
I can stand that about as much as I can stand chatspeak, they're both the same.

QueenOfGreen says : 25 July 2008
*and then send me another message

...Typo's..they are yet another thing I hate.
Sorry for the double post.
