Personal Statement.

Having thoroughly enjoyed my academic study of English Literature,
Religion, Applied Business Studies and Spanish, I have chosen a degree
that which will enable me to pursue my interests and studies at
greater depth.
I feel that a profession in Law or Management suites me best as I am a
person who likes the continuous cycle of learning and enjoy working
with new people, as do I enjoy a new challenge.

My work experience in a local primary school as a teaching assistant
has allowed me to develop skills as a good communicator, working in a
large classroom with a small team of teachers and assistants, has
given me the experience of working within a team. The experience I
gained from working voluntarily in Glenside Special School has
provided me with the invaluable qualities of sensitivity and patience
when dealing with people with physical or mental disabilities. Having
completed many months of work experience in the local library, I have
attained both literary and I.C.T. skills. Working as an assistant
librarian shows that I am an organised, responsible person who is
capable of working with the general public. Such skills will prove to
be extremely useful in a law degree. Working part time as an Assistant
Cashier in a local bingo hall has developed my organisational skills
and also allowed me to manage my time effectively. I feel I have good
skills in time management as I have created a balance with my studies,
part time work and social life for the past two years.

The responsibility which I have been given by the school as Deputy
Head Girl has allowed me to use my initiative to the best of my
ability and has given weight to my independence and the conscientious
attitude which I have towards daily school life and my academic

My ongoing interest in Drama has given me confidence to speak and act
in front of an audience.
I was privileged to have been awarded a two week scholarship course in
Drama in the North-west Academy of Arts which allowed me to develop
team working skills and to appreciate the benefits of a support
network within a group. My skills in active listening and
communication were enhanced. This experience helped me to develop and
maintain good time management skills to ensure all deadlines are met,
which I believe will prove useful in my legal studies.
Having gained third place in a National competition, “Miss Teen
Ireland”, shows me to be a positive representative of both myself
and my local town and has also increased my confidence in public
In addition to this, I am a practicing linguist and have a special
interest in the Spanish language. After many successful trips to Spain
and other Hispanic countries I have developed an interest in
developing my abilities in the language further. These linguistic
studies show me to be a committed and enthusiastic student which I
think is a necessary quality for a law student.

Personal fitness is something which is very important to me. I
regularly visit a local gym and swimming pool which has increased my
determination and independence. I can follow instructions well and
have learned to use my initiative during my time at the gym. I believe
these qualities will not only help me within my degree but also within
university life.

At this early stage in my life I feel that I have gained enough
experience and acquired many transferable skills which can be applied
to any situation. As a person I have developed a positive and mature
attitude to my academic studies. I understand that a law degree
involves commitment, ambition, perseverance with the high work rate
and I think that I am suited to this challenge.
