there's nothing wrong with this being popular..i mean, art is art.
if you made a sculpture out of old toothbrushes and called it art,
it's art.
the mona lisa isn't all that great, but it's one of the most
well-known pieces ever.

Making a sculpture out of toothbrushes sounds time consuming and
impressive. And the Mona Lisa IS art. How can you say it's not? =/

I absolutely dislike some abstract art. I saw a blank canvas in an art
museum being called "art". In one of their magazines, there was a
piece of rope nailed to a white canvas that was called "art". MOST
abstract art isn't even worth being called art.

I didn't say I had a problem about this piece. I really don't. I'm
just disappointed that this picture made it to the front page, when
another drawing that didn't take 2 seconds could have been in it's
place. No offense.

sorry if it came out wrong. i didn't mean to say that the mona lisa
was bad, or wasn't art, or anything like that. i was using it as an
example. clearly, it is one of the most famous pieces in the world,
although there are other pieces that are just as good, if not better.
so i was just saying that art doesn't necessarily have to be good to
be famous, or "popular" in this case. although the bold lines and
simplicity are simply genius. :D
