shared the majority of how to do it, in such a way that someone with
the knowledge required could easily put something together to imitate
what I did.

limited time. In the USA I think it's 70 years after the creator dies
that it expires, don't remember the UK law...

However, even if copyright applied back in the 15th century, it
would certainly have expired by now, 488 years after his death.

As for your analogy, if she were to die today, and one waited for 70
(or whatever) years, you would be able to claim her work was yours all
you like. No one gets 'arrested' for copyright infringement anyway,
you get sued.
