Konichiwa. I'm Kasumi Izmumi, daughter of Megura Izmumi, head of Izmumi business. People take me as a stuck-up brat,
but I'm not. I'm a normal girl. I love taking pictures, especially of Toki-chan and Hitomi-san, my best friends. It's
funny, they think my hobby is weird. Despite my father being extremely rich, at my school, Megumi Daihaza Junior High,
I'm not that popular. In fact I'm not popular at all. Mainly it's because my life is a little weird. I'll explain it
now.
I woke up, scared. I had just had that freaky dream again. I was alone, and it was dark. There was nothing else around
me except for some kind of staff. I picked up the staff, and it began to glow. The light covered me, and then I wake
up. I lay back in bed in, before sliding out and getting dressed for school. It was Friday the 13th. I smiled at the
calendar. My little sister Tau had drawn black cats and little four-leaf-clovers on the 13 . I ran down stairs and
grabbed my coat. "Sayonara!" I called, ready to leave. "KASUMI!" yelled a voice. I froze, baring mysellf. My mum Lioko
was behind me. "It's Friday the 13th! You are staying home!" she said loudly. My mum is so superstitious. She makes us
stay home every Friday the 13th 'in case evil spirits steal your soul'. "I'm fine mum, I'll be ok!" I said quickly,
grabbing my rollerskates and making a dash for it. Mum chased me, but I was faster. I mean of course I was, I'm part of
the gym team and she's a 40 year old mum of three. Mum of me, Tau and my older brother Eugumi. I jumped over the back
gate (not easy in rollerskates) and skated down the path. I breathed a sigh on relief. Then I snapped back to reality
and began playing with my hair. I had to go down Sakura Lane to get to school. It was named that beacuse of the huge
cherry trees along either side of the road. I was nervous because Akimoto Kaito lived down that road. Akimoto Kaito is
the cutest boy in the whole school, in the whole world! I skated round a bend into Sakura Lane, and there he was. There
was no reason he shouldn't be there. But I turned red, all the same. He waved, and smiled. I turned even redder. He was
the cutest boy ever - and he was waving at me!!! I skated past, smiling. I sped up, and reached school. "Kasumi?"
"Uh-huh ..." "You've seen Akimoto, haven't you?" "Wah!" I turned to face Tokihana and Hitomi (my bessies).
"Nooooooooooo! Why did you say that?" Tokihana was giggling and Hitomi looked scornful. "You've been in a daze since
9:00 this morning." "So?" "It's 3:35, end of school." "Oh ... gotta go!" I called. Toki and Hitomi can be VERY mean
about boys that I crush on. Especially the extra cute ones. "Kasumi! You forgot your coat!" called Tokihana, but I
couldn't wait to get home. Just to prove to my mum that Friday the 13th did not mean I was definetely going to explode
if I left the house. I hadn't even got homework. But, of course, it rained. That will give mum an excuse to have a go
at me. I skated down Sakura Lane and there was Akimoto, as usual. He was holding an umbrella, so thankfully he didn't
see me. I skated in front of him, waving. He smiled. He has such a cute smile! I was so busy waving I failed to notice
the huge cherry tree in front of me. And rollerskates on wet ground are not very stable. Suprise suprise, I fell into
this tree. It hurt. A lot. And guess who saw the baka of the century? Akimoto. But ... he ran over to see if I was ok!
I wasn't, my head hurt too much, but of course I said I was fine and tried to get up. "No, you hurt your head. Come
inside." I almost fainted. Akimoto's house was suprisingly normal. His mum was home, cooking something. "Is this a new
girlfriend?" his mum asked. "Mum, of course not. This is Kasumi Izmumi, a girl at my school. Where's dad?" "In the
basement." "Oh.". I remained silent, still blushing. "Go down to the main room. You can wait there while I get you an
ice pack." Akimoto said kindly. "Oh, ok." I whispered, nervously walking down a small set of stairs. There were two
doors. Cautiously, I picked the first. It was dark but I had hit my head so I felt weird anyway ... and I was in
Akimoto's house! It was dark, but I half-saw a machine like object. I stepped forward, and touched it. It was cold. I
felt the edges, and my fingers found a button. I pressed it, hoping for some light. But I got far too much.
A bright light exploded in front of me... throwing me back. I-It was like my dream, but backwards. The light was too
bright, but a shadowy object in front of me suddenly caught my attention. I grabbed it, and all the light collected
into the staff-like thing. It was back to normal. "You are the 13th Jewel Ace." "What?" A shadowy figure walked towards
me. It was Akimoto. "My father discovered something, years ago. He discovered that while Earth was still growing, a man,
a sorcerer, dug to the Earth's core. He found thirteen sources of power, such power that the power we have barely
touches the surface. He collected these powers, placing them inside 20 cards. He called them the Power Aces. Because of
this power, he was chosen to rule the people, but they grew jealous. The sorcerer was killed, the power hidden, the
cards lost. On the full moon, on a Friday 13th, there is another chance to bring back this power. But we have always
failed. Until now." he said quietly.
"Ok ...................................... and what does that have to do with me?" I questioned, feeling confused.
"You are the 13th Jewel Ace. The sorceress chosen on the full moon, on Friday 13th, to battle this power and find the
cards." "So .... in English?"
I felt so stupid. Obviously something with the light and the powers had happened, and I had to 'collect' this power.
"And how am I going to 'collect' these powers?" I asked a little more calmly. So far, nothing big had happened. "Well,
you must know how somewhere inside, since you have the Angel Card." I looked confused. "What?" Akimoto laughed and
pointed to a mirror behind him. I jumped about a foot in the air. I wasn't wearing my school uniform ... but I was
wearing a layered lilac mini-dress. A pair of wings were floating just above my shoulders, but they were faint, like a
hologram. "WAAH! What happened to me?" I screamed. "This is what happens when a Jewel Ace is born. And judging by the
wings, you have the Angel Card. Try and get it." "Ok ... how am I meant to do that?" "Trust your heart." Akimoto said
kindly. I turned red. A rush of power ran over me, and words appeared in my head ... "Tien Shyr Juh Baw!" I cried, and
a gold-and purple card appeared in my hand. "Not, prepare for battle. The Earth Card is near." Akimoto said darkly. I
ran outside, my new lilac boots easy for walking on the wet ground. I saw it. "Is that the Earth Card?!" I cried to
Akimoto, signalling to a huge tornado of rock and earth swirling about in the park opposite the the Kaito house. "I'm
surprised it made itself known to you this soon." Akimoto said surprised. "How do I fight it?" I asked. "I don't know!
Use the Angel Card." he shouted. The tornado-like-thing suddenly swerved towards me. "Wah!" I shouted, as the Earth
Card threw me into the air, screaming. I clenched my eyes together, preparing for my body to smash into the ground. It
didn't. I opened my eyes, I was hovering-supported by my tiny little wings. It gave me a boost of confidence. "You!
Earth Card! Leave me alone, or face the consequences." I shouted. I brought the Angel Card to my face. I lightly kissed
it, and it began to glow. My staff appeared, but a blue-ish colour. "Angel!" I called, bringing down the staff in front
of me. It began to glow, forming a whirlpool of light. The tornado was dragged into it. I flew to the ground. My staff
returned to purple, and I felt another card in my hand. I was holding the Angel Card, and the Earth Card.
I sat on my bed, in my new pink pjamas. I basically understand how I was meant to do this, but I didn't know why. "Why
did that sorcerer dig to the centre of Earth? Why did the Cards not stay as cards? Why did this sorcerer choose me?" I
asked myself quietly. I got up, went over to my lamp and flicked the on light. It flashed briefly, and went out. "Oh
great." I sighed. I reached for the my torch to start reading, but instead the light in my torch flickered out, and a
smal light appeared, floating under my hand. "Oh ..." I whispered. I held my hand over the cards on my desk. One read
"ANGEL" in old, faded letters. It was covered with pictures of angels, painted on in a delicate fashion. The second
read "EARTH" and was decorated with leaves and flowers. I clicked my fingers and the light went out. I went to my
window. The stars were out, and they were beautiful. I grabbed my digital camera and clicked the shutter. The picture
printed immediatly. I stuck it into my photobook. I paused, unsure of what to write underneath. I smiled. 'Friday 13th,
A Magical Moon' I wrote, copying the ancient text on the cards. I got into bed and fell asleep.
I skated home from school, stopping by the bike shed where me and Tokihana normally met to walk home together. There
were still lots of girls from my school around, some cycling, some walking, and some skating, like me. I waved to a
few, and Tokihana skated up behind me, grabbing my sides. "Wah! Toki, don't do that! You know it makes me jump." I told
her, but she only laughed. We began skating to my house. "Every time I come to your house, it amazes me." Tokihana said
in awe. I live in a huge house, with several balconies, a trampoline and a swimming pool. It's because my dad is
loaded. I have a massive bedroom with designer furniture and a balcony. I don't really care. Tokihana's house is much
cooler. They have a dog and a normal garden. Their dad is always cooking. We ran upstairs, dodging Eugumi (onee-chan).
"Hey!" he said sulkily. "U-uh, so sorry!" Toki stuttered. Her face looked like a tomato. I dragged her upstairs.
"Toki!" "I'm sorry, just he is so cute! You are so lucky having the cutest brother ever." Toki said, leaning on my
door. "You should see him snore. Or hear him. That would put you off for life." I complained, climbing onto my bed.
"What are these?" Toki questioned - holding up the Angel and the Earth Cards! They had been on my desk. "Um... well...
they are .... err...." "Kasumi ....." I sighed . "Ok. You caught me. Let me show you." I said to her, and took the
Angel Card. I went onto my balcony, raised the card. I kissed it gently, and I was suddenly wearing my outfit, and my
now blue staff in my hand. "Angel!" I called, waving my staff. A burst of light shot out of the staff, destroying my
neighbour's trees. Tokihana looked from me to the tree, and fainted.
"So .......................... let me get this straight. You are ... a super hero?" Toki asked, sitting crossed-legged
on my carpet opposite me. "No... I'm a superheroine. Basically." I told her. I had explained, and I think she was
actually realising what was happening. "Is it just you?" Toki asked. "I don't know. Want to try?" I asked, laughing,
tossing her the Earth Card. "Ok!" she cried, jumping up and snatching the card. "No! Wait!" I said. What could happen?
But it was too late. "Earth!" Tokihana shouted, holding out the card. There was a huge flash of light. I opened my
eyes. Tokihana was standing, completely relaxed. Her arm was stretched out. I looked at the Earth card. Slowly, her
fingers began to glow. It formed a pair of pale pink gloves, followed by a layered dress and wings ... "Toki!" I cried.
But she wasn't listening. She looked up, and smiled. "Yes! I guess we are more like each other than we thought." she
said, grinning.
Akimoto pressed various buttons on the machine in his basement. "I'm not sure how there are two Jewel Aces. But it
will increase the speed that we can collect the cards. The next card is the Rainbow Card." he said, still pressing
buttons. "Rainbow?" Toki questioned. "Yeah. It is a tricky card, and hard to capture. It blends in to the Earth. But
using the Earth Card, it shouldn't be too hard." He said, flashing me a smile. I blushed. Toki elbowed me and I shoved
her. "Go find the Card, Jewel Aces Kasumi and Tokihana." Akimoto said. I nodded and instinctively flew upwards -
forgetting the roof and upstairs kitchen! But I just flew normally and was outside. I realised I had faded slightly,
like my wings. I returned to normal. Toki followed me. "Let's find Rainbow." She said, smiling, and flew off. I was
amazed she had grown accustomed to her powers so quickly. She was amazing with the Cards and could fly well. I still
continued burning Mr Yuukii's trees and crashing into my ceiling.
I soared over the city, and groaned as large fat raindrops began to fall. "Great!" I shouted upwards, flying forward. I
paused. I was just in front of Tokyo Tower. I blinked as the sun reflected off something near the top. I looked around.
"Rain ... and sun .... rainbow!" I said, soaring towards the top of the tower. I noticed Tokihana flying towards the
tower too, and waved. Suddenly, I collided with something. An invisible wall. I fell backwards, my sight blurring. I
saw Toki ........... and then blackness.
I woke up. I still couldn't see. Someone with brown hair was bending over me. "Toki?" I whispered. "No." said a male
voice. Something cold touched my forehead. I sat up. I was at the base of Tokyo Tower, still in wings and my outift. A
boy my age was sitting beside me. He was wearing black, a pair of metal, demon-like wings attached to his back. "Who
are you?" I asked. He refused to speak, and flew off. I stared at him. "KASUMI!" someone yelled. It was Toki, running
towards me. "Toki, who was that?" I asked, standing up. "I don't know." Toki answered, her eyes following the black
speck in the distance. To my horror, I found myself blushing. "N-Never mind, we have to get Rainbow!" I said, leaping
upwards. Tokihana followed, soaring beneath me. I stopped at the top of the tower, mouth open. There was a beautiful
woman, dancing. Her long bleach blonde hair fell near the hem of her flowing rose-coloured dress. Her eyes opened, and
fixed on me. I gasped as her skin turned dark, her eyes red, her teeth lengthening. She swiped at me, slapping me with
the back of her hand. I flew into a backflip. "Angel!" I called, flashing the card. But she was gone. "Rainbow.... you
can blend into the background, can't you?" I whispered, spinning on the spot. I couldn't see. Someone grabbed my neck,
an icy cold grip choking me. I coughed, unable to breath. My vision faded again, but I made out the woman, her eyes
hard and her face emotionless. "What are you?" I choked, trying to loosen her grip. "EARTH!" yelled a voice, and
Rainbow was blown backwards. I saw Toki standing behind me. "No-one hurts my best friend." she said, smiling. I flew
beside her. "Power of the Jewel Ace, return to your origin!" We cried in unison, spinning our staffs above our heads
like batons. We caught the staffs, crossing them in front of us. A glowing rectangular box of light formed where our
staffs crossed. Rainbow was dragged into the light, screaming. I hugged Tokihana, laughing.
It was late, around 2:30 am. Toki was sleeping at my house. But Akimoto was awake, searching for something on his
computer. He found it, and his blood ran cold, picking up the phone. "Kasumi? I've found the enemy."
I sat up wearily, rubbing sleep from my eyes. "Akimoto? Couldn't you tell me this tomorrow?" I said, falling back on my
bed, waking Toki. "No. I've found the enemy." "Enemy?" "Remember that sorcerer? I have just discovered something. When
he discovered the powers, he decided to play at God. In short, he tried to make a Card. He suceeded, making the Schemer
Card. But Schemer is a trickster. It can change form. It evolved, becoming human like. But it turned evil. It killed
it's creator, forming into a creature of hate. It eventually created a family. And now it's descendants, like that boy
you saw, has reawakened. Basically, the descendants of Schemer are trying to get the Cards. If they do, the human race
is over." he said severly down the phone. He hung up, but I barely noticed. I was suddenly hit with the intesity of
this. Tokihana sat up. "What was that about?" she yawned. "Toki...the fate of the Earth rests with us." I whispered.
I explained what Akimoto had said. "So, if we don't get these Cards ... then the human race is finished? But what about
that boy? He was human apart from the wings strapped to his back." Toki asked, curious. "Well, anyone can join the
Schemers if they choose." said a male voice. "Who's there?" I called, grabbing the Cards. "Me. Or Marisuke, if you
want." said the now sarcastic voice. I flung open my curtains. "Found me!" laughed the boy from earlier. "You!" "No,
it's the Tooth Fairy. I figured since you found us, their was no point in hiding." "Leave us alone! I was asleep." Toki
said snottily. "Now, at night? No ... night is the best time. It's darker." Marisuke laughed, gesturing to the moon. He
leapt off my balcony, hovering next to my window. "Au revoir, mon cherie." he said coldly, and flying away. "Weirdo."
It was finally Friday, last day of Easter term. I skated to school, waving to Akimoto and skating faster, catching up
with Toki and Hitomi. "Hey." "Hey." Hitomi seemed quiet, which was unusal for her. "Hitomi?" I said, skating beside
her. "What's up?" "Nothing." she replied, staring at her rollerskates. I looked at Toki worriedly. "Maybe she feels
left out? We have been leaving her out since ... you know ..." Toki whispered. I nodded, and grabbed Hitomi's hand.
"Hey, do you want to go to lunch tomorrow with me and Toki? My treat." I asked. Hitomi smiled. I whipped out my camera
and took a picture. This made her laugh. Hitomi came from England, but her parents were South African. They moved to
South Africa when Hitomi was small, and she grew up in a rough area. Now she lives here, and I think she's happy. Most
of the time she's sarcastic and loud, but when she gets they quiet spells I know somethings up. It always happens
around Easter too. We skated into class, our teacher reading out the register. I sat down, between Toki and Hitomi on
the row of desks. "Hitomi Fuijsa?" our teacher questioned. "Here, sensei." "Oh, and everyone say welcome to Marisuke
Kotoyua." our teacher annouced. Mine and Toki's heads shot up at exactly the same time. Hitomi looked up. Marisuke was
standing in front of us, his long-ish hair tied in a small ponytail and without his wings. He smiled at Hitomi. To my
horror, she turned bright red and hid her face. He walked to the empty seat beside Hitomi, smirking at me as he went.
Hitomi turned to us and whispered frantically. "Omfg! He is gonna sit next to me ... and he's totally cute!" I looked
stunned. "Hito-san, he is bad news." I told her. "Yeah, trust us." Toki added. Hitomi looked annoyed. Marisuke tapped
his fingers across his desk. "So who do I get the pleasure of sitting next to?" he asked politely. I was stung. He was
an evil Schemer, not this polite gentleman sitting near me. "H-Hitomi Fuijsa, my f-friends call me Hito-s-san." she
stuttered. She was embarrassed?! I wanted to go over there and slap him. I knew why Hitomi was blushing. She was
normally so tough - the only time she ever did this was when she had a major crush on a boy. And Hitomi could fall for
a boy faster than a pen hitting the ground. "So, Hito-san ... wanna go to my dad's restaraunt after school?" he asked.
If he continued acting like this I was gonna hit him with the full force of my fist, even if we were in school. "O-ok."
Hitomi said, trying to hide a huge smile. The bell rang and we ran to Pe.
I twirled my baton, tossing it higher and higher. "Hitomi! How could you go on a date with him?" "Come on Kasumi, you
don't even know him." "Well... he has a reputation. Right, Toki?" "Sure Kasumi. Hitomi, don't go on that date! You
barely know him." "I barely know him? You are telling me not to do this, but do you even know him?" Hitomi suddenly
yelled. Her baton fell to the floor, clattering on the wood. "Hitomi, I-" "Just don't ok? Every time I fall for a guy
you tell me he's a bad guy. So I never get anyone. Let me do what I want for a change!" I faltered. Hitomi was angry at
us. I hung my head. Marisuke appeared, walking over to Hitomi. "Baby?Let's go." Hitomi said coldly. As they left,
Marisuke shot me a leering smile.
Hitomi had been dating Marisuke for five weeks. I was starting to doubt he was a bad guy. Whenever I saw Hitomi, she
was smiling. I leant over to Tokihana. "You know, I don't think Marisuke's a bad guy. And Hitomi seems happy." I told
her, taking another string of noodles from my lunchbox. Tokihana paused thoughtfully. "I know. Maybe Marisuke just
looks like that guy we saw on your balcony ... or maybe it was a dream." she said carefully. "I'm going to apologise to
Hitomi." I said, getting up. My phone began to bleep. "It's Akimoto!" I squealed. "Don't get your hopes up, he wouldn't
call you in school." Toki said snottily. I pulled a face and answered his call. "Akimoto?" "Yeah. This is serious. I
did some more searching last night - and the FIRE Card is under your school. And judging that this was the school
Marisuke enrolled in , I'm guessing he already knows." said Akimoto, he voice serious. "Oh shoot!" I shouted, hidng my
phone as a teacher walked past. "We'll get the card, for sure." I whispered down the phone. Akimoto pasued. "Be
careful." he said. I turned bright red.
I closed my eyes, and touched my heart with both my hands. A rush of light flew over me and my Jewel Ace uniform
appeared. I ran down the empty corridor, onto the roof before leaping into the air and soaring above the school. I
searched the ground for any trace of FIRE or of Marisuke. But I was too high up. I swooped lower, before darting
upwards incase anyone saw me. "Where is Tokihana?" I muttered, still searching. A sudden rush of heat engulfed me,
throwing me back. How could I have missed it?! The entire Science block was on fire. Pupils were running, panicking. I
glided around to the back off the block, hidden by a big outdoor cupboard. "Marisuke, why are we here? We should be
running." said Hitomi's voice. She was scared. "Shut up, Hitomi. I'm busy." Marisuke snarled, and I couldn't control
myself. I flew forward, clenching my staff and smacking him upside the head with it. He was sent reeling, but he stood
up, grinning. Hitomi cried out. "No!" running to Marisuke's side. "Hitomi! How could you support him? He has been
treating you badly, I can tell." I shouted, and immediatly regretted it. Hitomi looked lost, scared. "N-no!" she
replied quietly. Marisuke somehow leapt forward, punching my stomach. I was sent reeling. I tried to sit up, my stomach
still burning with pain. "Hito-san? I-I thought you were my best f-friend." I stuttered. A tear ran down her cheek.
Marisuke smiled. "This is just starting." he laughed, grabbing Hitomi. "No!" I cried, but it hurt. He grabbed her, and
kissed her. I looked away. He digusted me. I looked again and them, now separate. Hitomi's blue eyes were glowing, and
they turned a deep shade of red, all emotion had left her. I whimpered in pain as I finally stood up. "Hito-san?
Hitomi?" I asked. "No." sneered Marisuke. Hitomi ran at me, punching my head. I flew backwards, reaching for the cards
I had. But she kicked me, and I slammed into the wall. I opened my eyes, and tried to smile. I saw a figure, with a
pale pink dress flying above the building, saying something... the fire had gone. Toki had got the Fire Card. But all
my hearing was gone... I blacked out.
While I was out, Tokihana had flown down, kicking Marisuke over and so doing so, breaking the power he had over
Hitomi. Hitomi got up and beat the guy so hard he won't be able to sit for a few months. I was still unconcious.
Basically, that's what I'm told.
"So Hitomi said what?" I asked. "I said 'You are a complete and utter prat and if you ever go near me or my friends
again I will kill you." Hitomi laughed. Her smile suddenly disappeared. "Why were you dressed all funny?" she asked. I
went pale. "Well, um .................." I sighed. I drew the Fire Card. "Fire!" I called, shooting a burst of flame
from my hand and I almost barbequed next door's cat. Hitomi looked at me . "That ........... is so
.......................COOL!" she shrieked, grabbing the card. "Fire!" she repeated, but her face fell as nothing
happened. "Oh ... I don't have magical powers ..." she sighed. "Ah well." she smiled, before hanging her head again.
"Guys, it's all my fault Marisuke hurt you. Just .... the day I met him was my nan's birthday. But when we left Africa,
I didn't say goodbye and then she died. So I get upset. And Marisuke .... god I want to slap him .... seemed to
'understand'. That's why I went out with him." she explained sadly. Tokihana smiled. "Don't worry. Because ... we are
best friends for forever." she giggled.
I peeked around the door of the classroom. An assortment of girls stood around a piano, a teacher was playing. I smiled
as I noticed Toki standing next to the teacher. He played a few introduction bars and nodded at Toki. She started to
sing quietly.
"The moon is shining, brighter than the sun,
And here I stand, although I sing alone.
The moon's bright light, it helps me to smile and sing.
I'm not alone, though that's you might think.
The night is young, and the stars are shining bright.
The moon is smiling, it bathes me with its' light.
The sun is rising, but the night is so much nicer
The moon is gone, but my song is still flying." she sang. A girl in the crowd stifled a gasp. Toki was a great singer.
She finished and turned a red colour as the crowd applaused. I clapped and she smiled at me. I ducked behind the door
again as the teacher stood up. "Miss Tokihana, I think your singing has improved so much, would you like to be in the
school musical?" he asked politely. Toki turned a purple-colour and nodded slightly.
To pass the time, here's a photo of me, Toki and Hitomi. (Designs can be utterly different, just I got bored.)
