Lunar Stars! A great story every one thinks so ~ nya! Please read this loner is lonely. l(
It's quite long, but please read!
I’m Shira Shiriyaku
Shira Shiriyaku ran to school. She was so late, and her teacher was the strictest teacher in school. As she ran, her
bag opened and books flew out onto the path. “I knew I should have got the black bag.” she sighed, and bent over to
pick them up. As she picked them up, a girl in a blue school uniform, with her head in a book, tripped over her and
landed on top of Shira. “Oof!” said the girl. The girl got up, and helped Shira to her feet. “I’m so sorry!”
she said, and Shira stood up. “It’s okay. It was my fault. I’m Shira Shiriyaku .” she said, and she noticed the
red book on the floor. “That must be some book!” she laughed. The girl picked it up. “It is! I’m Lina
Linraya.” she said. They walked together down the path. Shira froze suddenly as she realised how late she was. “Bye
Lina!” she yelled, dashing away. “I’m so late!”
Shira settled into class. Under her desk, a small scar on her knee began to glow lightly. It faded away, and the scar
was replaced by a purple mark, resembling a bunch of grapes.
In another part of the school, Kaii Boiniio stared at his computer. “No way!” he said to himself. He was looking at
the energy level around the school. At 14:07, the exact time Shira’s mark had appeared, the energy levels had
increased by millions of digits. He got up and walked along the corridor. A small pocket scanner lead him to Shira’s
class. The closer Kaii got, the higher the energy. He waited until class ended. As the pupils poured out, he was still
waiting. Shira walked out, and the scanner exploded, not being able to hold so much data. Kaii looked at her. He walked
up to her. “Hi. I’m Kaii. I work in a small bookshop on the outskirts of town. I need volunteers and was wondering
if you would like to help out.” he asked. Shira tried to avoid his eyes. They gave her a weird feeling. This Kaii was
cute, but his eyes were strange. “Um, ok…” she said, and Kaii smiled. He handed her a slip of paper, shook her
hand and disappeared. Shira stared at her hand, and blushed involuntarily. She looked at the paper of paper. “Boiniio
Books.” she read out loud. She stared at her hand again. That shake had made her feel strange - just like his eyes.
Later, Lina Linraya stood outside Boiniio Books. She looked inside. She saw tons of shelves, crammed with books. Lina
was a bookworm - she saw a book, she read the book. She also noticed the “Wanted; volunteers.” sign in the window.
She walked inside. She spotted Kaii, sorting out books on a shelf. “Excuse me, but I saw the sign in your window
and…” she stuttered. Under his apron, Kaii Boiniio pulled out his( newly repaired ) scanner. The scales were almost
as high as when he met Shira… Shira. Shira was different. When he shook her hand … oh, never mind. He needed her,
but for different reasons. He shook himself. “What am I thinking? Other reasons? What am I talking about …” he
thought, and he snapped back to reality, as a very confused Lina stared at him. “Sure! Let me jot down your
details.” he said, and he walked over to the desk. “Lina!” said Shira, running over. Lina smiled, and realised
she was going to like this job. Lanky Lina Linraya might have finally found her place.
Kaii lead Shira into the basement. “What’s going on?” asked Shira, confused. “Do you remember, from little
kids’ stories, the centaurs? Half horse, half man?” Shira nodded. “These beasts have the power to convert animals
power into their own. These creatures have evolved, so they can convert the power of any animal in the world. But each
centaur, or Lune, can only control one animal. Nowadays, Lunes are nearly extinct. Every century, five Lunes are born.
You are a Lune.” he said quietly. Shira’s world stopped. Suddenly, a new feeling ran through her, this feeling of
being able to control the power of a whole species. “What animal am I?” she asked. “From my conclusions, your
power is of the Artic Hare.” “WHA-WHAT!” she yelled. “ I THOUGHT I HAD THIS COOL NEW POWER AND YOU TELL ME I
HAVE THE POWER OF A BUNNY!” she screamed. “Be quiet!” said Kaii. “Remember, Lina.” he whispered. “Oh. Does
she have this power?” Shira asked. “Yes.” “What animal?” Kaii looked uncomfortable. “Um … a lion …”
he stuttered. “A LION ! I have the power of a cuddly toy and she gets the power of a LION!” Shira fumed. Kaii
handed her a staff/wand. It was purple, with a lilac berry-shaped gem at the top. It shrunk and only the gem was left.
She clipped it onto her necklace. “Use that to defeat the Dark Saints.” he said. “I’m not scared of the
Dark.” joked Shira. Kaii frowned. “I’m not talking shadows under your bed. I’m talking dragons and creatures in
your nightmares. I don’t even know what they are.” Shira stayed silent. She quietly walked upstairs and sent Lina
downstairs. She looked at her necklace and clutched it tight. Lina and Kaii came upstairs. Kaii came over to her. He
stared at her knees, and Shira pulled down her skirt, trying to cover her legs. He shook his head and pointed at the
grape-shaped mark on her knee. “That shows you are a Lune.” he said. Shira was relieved, but a little disappointed.
At least she would have got some attention from him… “What am I thinking!” she thought. “I’m been plunged into
a different world and all I can think about is whether he likes me … Aargh! Of course he doesn’t! We only met
because of my power … Then why does that make me sad?” Shira thought. She flipped open her phone. She scrolled down
her phone book. “Hi Mum. I’ve got a job!” she said down the phone.
A new comrade, but is a real lady a real friend?
Shyly, Shira came out of the changing room. She was wearing her lilac uniform, her long brown hair tied up into bunches
with lilac ribbons. She blushed. Kaii smiled. “You look beautiful.” he said. Shira turned red. “Beautiful? Most
boys would say I looked hot…” she thought. A beeping noise came from Kaii’s laptop. “Uh oh. There’s a Dark
Saint on his way.” he said. Shira’s reaction was immediate. “Lunar Shira! Activate!” she cried, and tossed her
necklace in the air. She leapt up, caught the necklace and it grew into the wand. Her new uniform was covered in lilac
stars and the stars covered her. She twisted on the spot and twirled the wand around her. Her uniform faded away to be
replaced by a beautiful lilac dress. Kaii stared. “Wow.” he said to himself. “Cool!” said Shira, feeling her
new white rabbit ears and tail. Kaii snapped out of it. “Come on! There is a Dark Saint controlling a wolf from the
London Central Zoo. Be careful, this wolf may have changed form.” he said. Shira put her hands on her hips and smiled
at him. “Come on, we’re not Barbie dolls.” she laughed. Kaii laughed, and their eyes met. They both smiled at the
exact same moment and they both turned red with blushing. “Go!” he said, and Shira ran outside. Lina stood there,
unsure of what to do. Kaii pointed to her necklace. She raised it above her head and cried out. “Lunar Lina!
Activate!” and she held the necklace at arms length in front of her. Red waves of light came out of the necklace, and
washed over her, leaving her with lion ears and tail and a red, long and flowing dress. She quickly followed Shira.
All around the zoo, people were running from the huge black beast roaming around in the park. The beast’s fangs were
huge and it was attacking a tree, snarling at anyone who came near. Shira and Lina arrived, Shira leaping from place to
place swiftly, while Lina was more running and swerving. The beast turned and growled at them. They stood silently
facing the Wolf. Suddenly, it sprang forward, knocking the girls down. Shira leapt up again, and held out her wand.
“Berry Amethyst Wand!” she cried, and the purple gem began to glow, and it shot a lilac beam at the wolf. It hit,
and Lina cheered. The wolf turned into a ball of light and faded away. A voice sounded in Shira’s head. “That was
the test … You’ve passed.” whispered a sinister voice. Shira opened her eyes. Kaii was running towards them.
“That was excellent! I didn’t believe you could do it.” he admitted. He hugged Shira, and they both turned red.
Matsua Jokiuao sat it the back of the limo. The limousine stopped and she got out. Walking around, she noticed two
girls fighting a huge wolf. She was going to turn and run when she noticed the girls were winning. The girls were not
humans. The beast collapsed, and a boy ran over to them. He hugged the brunette. They talked, and the girls went behind
a tree. Their beautiful dress faded into red and purple uniforms and their animals features disappeared. They were both
wearing necklaces, just like the one Matsua had bought from the fortune teller earlier … Matsua clutched the
necklace. It began to glow just like the girls’. They looked confused. Matsua turned to run as the girls got up. They
began to chase her. Matsua was scared. “Hey! Little girl! We won’t hurt you!” yelled Shira. “Lunar Matsua!”
said Lina. “H-how did you know my name?” asked Matsua, scared. “Let Kaii explain.” said Lina, approaching
Matsua. Matsua calmed down, and looked at Kaii. “What’s going on?”.
Matsua stood, nervously checking out her green uniform. “So… I have the power of a black panther?” she asked
nervously. “Yes.” said Kaii. Matsua smiled shyly. Her green crescent moon-shaped pendant was attached to a ring on
her finger. Lina looked at the ring on her next finger. “Wow! Is that real sapphire?” she said, amazed. “Yes. I
am Matsua Jokiuao, my father owns Jokiuao Softwares.” “JOKIUAO SOFTWARES!” screamed the girls at her. “You are
one of the richest girls in the world!” said Shira. Matsua nodded. “But that will be a problem. If the richest girl
in the world is seen working at a small bookstore, the Dark Saints will get suspicious.” said Kaii. “Well, we could
change your personality or looks.” suggested Lina. Matsua scowled. “I’m not that smiling cutey pie you see on the
tv you know. And I am refusing to work in a bookshop with … urgh … the middle class.” she said, turning to walk
out of the room. Lina grabbed her shoulder. “Look, I don’t care. Do you want the world to end?” Lina told her,
angrily. Kaii was surprised. Lina didn’t seem that type of girl. Matsua looked Lina in the eye. “Look, I don’t
want to do this but since the world needs it, I guess I have to.” And she flipped open her expensive phone.
“Daaaaaaaaaaddy. I’ve got a new place. I’ll be going here every Saturday. Ok?” she snapped, and she hung up.
“You talk to your Dad like that?” said Shira. “Duh.” said Matsua, and she strutted out of Boiniio Books. Shira
looked at Kaii, and she giggled at the expression on his face as he stared at Matsua.
Kaii sat at the computer, adjusting graphs and searching for information. “So, how many Lunes are there?” Lina
asked, bending over the computer. “Five. But in a time of need ……. (says this ancient script) …….. A new
angel from the sky will fly to help the Angels of Earth.” Kaii read out loud. “So six.” said Shira. “That’s
what my information says.” said Kaii. “How will we know who is a Lune?” asked Lina. “A mark on their bodies.”
“Well that’s gonna help. Shouting in the street, hey, ‘has anyone got strange marks on their bodies?’”. said
Matsua from the doorway. Kaii looked at her. “You’re positive. Anyway, you will somehow know who is a Lune. Like
Lina knew Matsua’s name.” he said, turning to look at Shira and Lina. The room fell quiet. The door bell rang and
Matsua and Lina went upstairs. Shira stood, silent. The full blow of what was going to happen finally hit her. She
closed her eyes and breathed deeply. Kaii got up. “The air is fresher outside.” he whispered, and stroked her arm.
He went upstairs. Shira opened her eyes. What had just happened? She was so confused, but Kaii was even more confusing.
She was sure it was just a one-off. Kaii cursed himself. He was meant to be looking after them, not fall in … Well,
they were protectors of the Earth, not normal girls. He was not going to get himself tangled up with them.
Hara Lin walked down the path. She ignored the old, teenage boys following her. As she turned a corner, she quickened
her step. The footsteps behind her still followed. She started to run, and so did the boys behind her. She fumbled with
her purse, and she threw it behind her, and continued to run. Jeers from the boys followed her, and she shrieked. A
bunch of bigger boys was standing in front of her. She whimpered as she saw the huge black dog on the chain that one
boy was holding. It scared her, like the dog on tv in London Zoo, three days ago. Hara was nine, and these boys were
about a decade older than her. “Where’s your money?” asked the leader roughly. Sobbing, Hara pointed to the purse
on the floor. A boy tipped out the few pounds inside. “C’mon, we want more money.” smirked someone. “Where is
your phone?” said the leader. “I-I-I don’t h-have one. My m-mum couldn’t afford one.” cried Hara. “You
little-” shouted the gang, and one boy leapt forward and slapped her. She flew backwards and hit a wall, and she fell
unconscious. The gang laughed, and the dog, snarled, lunging at the unconscious Hara. The boy with the dog was about to
let him go, when a punch in the head sent him flying. Matsua stood behind him, posing in her new green shorts.
“What!?” yelled the boy next to her, and he lunged at Matsua. “Lina! Get the girl!” yelled Matsua, as she
raised her ring above her head. She threw it towards a boy, and it grew to the size of a plate and hit the boy, before
spinning towards Matsua again. Lina flew forward and grabbed Hara, picking her up and running to safety, trying to wake
her up. Lina raised her heart-shaped grenades and wiped one across the cut on Hara’s head. As she did so, she saw a
acorn-shaped scar on Hara’s head. It was glowing, and Hara’s cut disappeared. Lina gasped as Hara woke up, and
leapt forward. She kicked a teenager in the head, raising a hidden bracelet from under her sleeve. “Lunar Hara!
Activate!” she laughed, and she stretched out her arms, doing a cheerleader-type dance as her new yellow-brown
leotard appeared, a bushy tail and rounded ears growing and Hara leapt into a cartwheel and caught her dagger, brown
and gold streamers adorning the handle. She leapt forward, beating up teenagers with quick, dance like moves.
“Wow.” said Shira. The dog growled and leapt at Hara, knocking her tiny frame to the ground. “Berry Amethyst
Wand!” called Shira, and the beast faded into a ball of light and disappeared. Before it did so, Hara spotted it’s
plain black eyes. A boy hissed- hissed? - and Hara noticed that each boy had the same black eyes. She shuddered and the
gang ran off, somehow fading into the shadows. “Those were young Dark Saints.” said Matsua. Hara looked at her
squirrel tail. “What am I?” she asked.
Another friend, another Lune, another Dark Saint - or is she?
Shira walked down a path. She followed this feeling, the feeling of urgency. She had felt it coming out of school, and
it had lead her to the forest. She heard talking, and hid behind a tree. An incredibly beautiful woman was floating
above the air, dressed in black. A boy Shira’s age stood next to her, floating, standing as if he was leaning on
something. “Come on, Yuki, we don’t have all day. Are you gonna kill the Lunes, or me?” the boy asked. “No
hesitation. You. I don’t have time for human wannabees.” Yuki answered. The boy grinned, but his smile faltered as
Shira stepped on a twig. Shira cursed herself, knowing she couldn’t run. She transformed and stepped out. “So, a
little bunny.” the boy laughed. “Flame!” he cried, shooting a black flame out of his hands at her. It hit. Shira
stood up. “I don’t have time for this!” she yelled. “Berry Amethyst Wand!” The power knocked the boy back a
little. “I’m Haru.” he said, and swooped forward. The woman had gone. “See you later, Lunar Shira.” he said.
Haru kissed Shira on the cheek, and she turned red. He smiled, and disappeared.
Back at the shop, Kaii looked confused. He liked Shira, but why was she avoiding him? He hung his head. “It’s
because of the way I acted in the basement the day before yesterday.” he thought sadly. He couldn’t work with
someone who hated him. “Um, what’s wrong?” he asked, walking over to her. She spun around. “Um, err,
nothing!” she said, and scurried off quickly. Just looking at him after Haru had kissed her made her feel guilty.
In a black room, Yuki sat and looked outside. What was Haru talking about? After all, the main reason for all of this
was not to exterminate the Lunes, or the humans. A woman in deep, deep blue, nearly black, walked in. “Yuki, come on.
You must get started on plans.” the woman said stiffly. Yuki waved a hand and gasped. A glowing star on her hand
caught her attention. She ran out of the room and went to a large pillar. A control panel on it showed a picture of
Yuki. “Lunes.” Yuki whispered, and a fact-file on them beamed up. “Symptoms.” she said. “The power to
transform, a pendant piece of jewellery, - a glowing symbol on the body.” Yuki screwed up her eyes in the first fear
she had felt in years, since her father died. Was she turning into a good guy?
Yuki floated down, outside Matsua’s mansion (palace!) and landed on her balcony. The sound of her heels woke Matsua,
who sat up in bed. “Who are you?” asked Matsua. “Yuki Tashino. I am a Dark Lune, once a Dark Saint. Now, I am
willing to work with you as long as you all stay away and refer to me as Saruwatari Kashinone.” Matsua just stared,
but nodded. Yuki disappeared. “Wait!” cried Matsua, running to her balcony. But ‘Saruwatari’ was gone.
Matsua burst into Boiniio Books. “I’ve found the fifth Lune! She says she a Dark Lune.” shouted Matii-san
(Matsua). Kaii ran towards her. “A Dark Lune? A Dark Lune is a Lune selected from a Dark Saintess to change sides. A
fallen angel re-earning her wings.” Kaii said. “Her name is Saruwatari Kashinone, or that’s what we have to call
her.” said Matii. “A codename so her ex-comrades do not know who she is so they can destroy her.” said Kaii.
“My ex-comrades are already searching.” said a voice from the door. Saruwatari stood watching. “You!” said
Matsua, pointing at Saruwatari. Saru’s eyes were red and she looked sad, before turning angry. She looked at Hara’s
smile and her anger turned the shock. Hara looked just like her little sister … but Sami-onee-chan (sister) had
disappeared aged five. Missing-presumed-dead. Saru turned angry again. “ I had a difficult childhood, but if I have
been chosen to be a Lune, then I have to accept it. My DNA is of the African Viper.” she said to Kaii. “My cover is
Saruwatari, the aspiring actress from Japan, moved to London for a college course and is renting out the upstairs in a
bookstore for a home.” she explained. “I have no home.” Saru said quietly. Matii burst in. “My house has a
luxurious guest quarters and I live with my servants. You can pretend to be a cousin.” offered Matii. Saruwatari
smiled - a rare sight after the death of her father, the arrest of her mother and the disappearance of her sister. She
had nothing to smile about. That’s why she had chosen to be a Dark Saint, had the power (floating and fire) induced.
The scars from the treatment still adorned her arms. But she had escaped her past. Now, becoming a Lune was a safer way
to do that, but Saru wasn’t prepared to give up her dark ways. She nodded and Matii smiled. Saru felt strange-and
suddenly looked at Hara, who was pulling a face. “Sami ta ka, onee-chan!” laughed Saru. Saru stopped and covered
her mouth. “Sami?” questioned Hara. “I remember that… Yuki?” shouted Hara, tears falling suddenly.
“Sami?” whispered Saru. “Yuki - onee - chan!” cried Hara, running to Saru. Saru hugged her little sister, and
the tears fell. Suddenly, Saru became confused and turned and ran. She couldn’t bring her past back. It would kill
her. “Sorry. Gomenasai. You remind me of my dead sister.” said Saruwatari stiffly. “You remind me of my carer in
the social services. Let’s pretend that never happened.” said Hara, suddenly laughing at the mistake she had made.
Saruwatari walked upstairs. “I need to hide, before my ex-comrades will be searching.”. “Too late. Another Dark
Saint is coming, but this time it’s in human form.” said Kaii, shutting his laptop. Shira, Lina, Hara and Matsua
sprinted out of the store. Saruwatari Kashinone followed slowly. She was calmer than the rest, since she knew the Dark
Saint who they were going to fight.
Haru stood, floating above London Park. The crowds were gone, but the Lunes still did not arrive. He smiled as five
girls arrived from the path. “Berry Amethyst Wand!” called a voice, and he was knocked back a little. He turned
around. “So, finally! You’re here!” he called. “Flame Inferno.” he shouted, and an invisible power sent the
girls flying. Saru stood up. “Let me fight. I know his weakness.” she said quietly. Haru waited. Saru leapt
forward, a spear with a star on the end clutched in her fist. She seemed to fly up wards. Haru lunged forward, but she
swerved left. He lunged again, and Saru simply flew left. On the third try, he lunged left as Saru shot downwards. She
flew upwards, knocking him back swiftly. Her black hair was an extremely pale blue, and her red eyes had turned blue
too. But if she spoke, Haru may recognize her voice. He scowled and leapt forward, and Saru dodged to the left again
and tripped him with her staff. He jumped up, snarling. “You -” he yelled, and disappeared. He appeared again
beside Shira and kissed her cheek again. “STOP DOING THAT!” Shira screamed, turning to punch the place he had been.
But he was gone. Kaii watched on his camera, back in the shop. When Haru kissed Shira, his face fell. He turned his head
from his laptop. But he smiled a smile of relief when he noticed Shira punching Haru a second before he disappeared. He
laughed and ran upstairs to congratulate his friends.
Kaii arrived in the park and took a step back as he saw the huge worm-like beast that he had failed to notice on his
camera. Hara leapt forward, flying through the air but the beast sent her flying. Shira and Matsua tried to attack but
they both flew to the ground. Kaii rushed to Shira’s side. She was unconscious. Saruwatari aimed a blow at it’s
head with her staff but it grabbed her and threw her away. She turned it into a neat back-flip and landed swiftly. She
called out to Kaii. “It’s too strong!” she yelled. Lina clenched her fists around her grenades and felt the sharp
edges rub into her hands. She leapt forwards, her long red hair changing into a blonde mane, her eyes becoming cat-like.
She raised the grenades, and brought them down swiftly in front of her. It was like a silent nuclear blast, and the
girls were shot backwards. The beast was gone. Lina was shocked. She was the timid one, but she was a lioness. Her
power contrasted her personality. She didn’t know why, but she burst into tears and ran off, her hair turning black
again and her red uniform returning.
Shira was worried. Lina hadn’t returned to the shop for three days. She was not seen in school or even at the local
library. Her phone was permanently turned off and they didn’t know her address. Now things were scaring Shira. They
couldn’t fight without Lina … and not just because of the power they had seen on Tuesday.
Lina closed her eyes, frustrated. From behind a circle of grey light surrounding Lina, Haru watched. Lina transformed,
tried throwing a grenade at the light circle, but it just disappeared. She sat down, tired. Haru leant forward and
smiled. “You can’t get out. After our tests, maybe we’ll let you out. Maybe.” he said, and turned to a screen,
watching figures rise and fall as the light around Lina increased and decreased its brightness. Suddenly, Yuki Tashino
walked into the room. Hair covered her face and she was wearing finger-less gloves. “Finally! Where were you Yuki?
People have been searching for you!” Haru complained, turning to face her. “Where I have been is none of your
business.” Yuki tapped on the control panel. Haru turned back to the screen. Yuki raised her fringe and smiled at
Lina. Lina gasped silently. Yuki took of one glove and briefly showed Lina. Lina nodded and began to cry crocodile
tears. Yuki pressed a button and suddenly the light circle disappeared. Lina flew out just as Matsua, Hara and Shira
flew in from a skylight above. Yuki brought her necklace in front of her chest and as it glowed so did she. Yuki
pressed a button on the control panel that sent a hologram Yuki running outside. The other Lunes shielded Yuki from
Haru. Yuki was gone. Saru was here. “Sapphire Spear!” she cried, and her spear was covered in fire. Saru jumped up
and sent a flame at Haru, and another at the screen, destroying the evidence Lina had unwillingly given the Dark
Saints. The Lunes disappeared, and Haru cursed.
Saruwatari Kashinone sat in the guest quarters of the Jokiuao mansion. She was scared. What if Haru had recognized her?
She knew she was nineteen, and he was twelve, but if the Dark Saints knew she had betrayed them, then she was dead meat.
Matsua came in, holding a tray with a bowl of marshmallows and some fizzy soda. She sat down next to Saru. “I thought
we could watch a movie.” she said. Every girl of this group reminded her of Sami. She smiled, and nodded. Matsua
settled on the sofa and flicked a switch on her remote. In a way Matsua had Sami’s personality. Joining the Lunes was
like having four little sisters. But Hara was so like Sami, it was hard to remember to even call her Hara instead of
Sami. But it must be a coincidence. Sami had disappeared years ago, she is probably dead. But it was hard to remember
it with Hara around.
Shira walked into Boiniio Books. “Am I too early?” she asked Kaii, who was the only person in the bookstore. “No,
it’s ok. You can stay until the others get here.” he replied. Shira walked over. She tripped over a bag on the floor
and knocked over a whole shelf of books. “Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry!” “It’s ok, it’s not your fault.” Kaii
said, bending over to pick up the books. “I’m so clumsy, I have two left feet.” said Shira apologetically. They
both reached for the last book at the exact same time and their hands met in the middle. They both blushed and quickly
drew their hands away. Shira’s face was bright red. She heard giggling from the door. Matsua and Hara stood there,
laughing. Matsua held a video camera. “I’m only doing homework but this is going straight on my webpage!” Matsua
giggled, extracting the memory from the camera and tucking it in her pocket. “You are so dead!” yelled Shira.
Saruwatari watched Shira and Matsua play-fight over the tape, even though it is obvious that Shira was not ever going
to let that tape go. Her mind brought her back to a memory from years ago.
Sami Tashino wrestled with her dog Uchi and pulled the toy bone from his mouth. She chucked it out of the room and
giggled as Uchi followed it, barking. Sakamoto Tashino , their mother, walked in. “Sami, play nicely.” she laughed,
and ruffled Sami’s hair. She did this to Yuki, who pulled back in protest. A man, their father, Taiki Tashino walked
in, and he picked up Sami and put her on his shoulders.
This was before Taiki was killed in a street accident and Sakamoto was jailed for a set-up that lied and said she was a
drug dealer. That was before Sami went out for sweets and disappeared, perhaps stolen by the social services. Before the
fourteen-year-old Yuki had run away to the Dark Saints. Before her life was ruined. There was no future for Yuki
Tashino. Saruwatari must forget her past.
She jumped as Hara pulled on her ponytail. A small notebook bounced out of her pocket. Hara jumped on it. Inside were
tons and tons of detailed drawings, especially flowers. “Wow! These are excellent! You know your cover is an aspiring
artist? Maybe that can come true.” said Hara kindly. Kaii called from his laptop. “I’ve discovered why Lina’s
powers increased so rapidly.” he said. The girls crowded around the laptop. On it was a bar graph, with five bars,
each with a certain colour (lilac, red, orange, blue and green) and each with a picture of a girl. Lina’s bar was the
highest. “This showed how your powers will mature. Lina’s powers matured much quicker than anyone else’s. The
order goes Lina, Saruwatari, Matsua, Shira, then Hara.” he explained. “Why am I last!!!!” fumed Hara. “You are
youngest.” “But Saru’s the oldest and Shira is older than Matsua.” questioned Lina. “Well, it all turns out
to be how the mind matures and how quickly your bodies adjust to the powers.” Kaii said, and he got up. “Your
powers may keep increasing, until you have no power over them. But from my calculations, that may never happen. We
better pray it doesn’t. After this maturation, you should be safe.” he said, worriedly. While Matsua was thinking
about what had happened, (and laughing that she would mature quicker than Shira), Shira slipped a hand in Matsua's
pocket and brought out the tape, triumphant.
The next day, Saturday, Matsua walked into the shop, four invitations clasped in her hand. “It’s my birthday
tomorrow! And you are all invited to my sleepover! Of course, except Kaii. I’m sorry. And you WILL all be coming, or
I’ll set my Dachshund, Fluffy, on you.” he said snottily, and flung an invitation at each girl. Then she smiled and
went off to get changed. Lina looked at the invitation. “What do you get for a girl who’s got everything so ever
wanted?”
Yeah Shira, who do you fancy?
Hara arrived at the Jokiuao house. She stood, amazed, at the huge wooden doors and nervously rang the doorbell. The
Children’s Home wasn’t exactly a Palace and neither was her parents house when she had finally been allowed to see
them. Hara was born when her parents were fifteen, and so was taken into care until they were able to look after her. A
maid in a black uniform showed her in and led her through an enormous hall. The woman smiled and opened a door. Hara
gasped and walked into the room. It was dark, but Hara could make out the beautifully ornate white walls and white
carpet. A huge double bed (not les) stood at the side of the walls and a massive plasma screen tv was propped up on the
wall. Matsua, Saruwatari, Lina and Shira sat on a fluffy rug on the floor facing the tv. Hara leapt down a small set of
stairs to the girls on the floor. “I’m heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere!” she called, and she stuck her present in Matsua’s
face. She took it and smiled. Lina crouched forward. “Finally! We can start opening the presents!” Lina giggled.
“Open mine first, Matii-san!” shouted Hara. “I think I’ll open Saruwatari’s first.” Matsua said, and picked
in the parcel wrapped in pale-blue paper. She opened it carefully. Inside was a beautiful green and white dream catcher.
The main bead in the centre was a sparkling emerald, a little cat engraved on the gem carefully. Matsua stared at it,
mesmerised. “I LOVE it1” she cried, hugging Saru tightly. Saru hugged her back. It had been a long time since
someone had hugged her. Matsua turned away and took Lina’s present, and then Shira’s. They contained a necklace and
a make-up kit. Hara’s present contained a pretty rose-embroidered nightdress. “Thank-you! I’ll go put it on
now.” she said, and ran quickly outside. Saruwatari looked around her and kneeled closer. “You know I live here? I
think Matsua is waiting for something. She has kept on texting someone over the last few weeks and gets embarrassed if
I ask who it is.” she said. At that moment, Matsua burst in, dressed in her new nightdress. There was a small
beeping, and Matsua ran to her phone. But leaping over her, Hara got to the phone first. “Ooooooh! From someone
called Daniel!” Hara giggled. “Gimme that!” shouted Matsua, turning red, and snatching her phone. But it was too
late. “Who’s Daniel?” chanted the girls together. Matsua blushed and hung her head. “Daniel’s my boyfriend.
He is on holiday in America and I really miss him. I was waiting for him to text me happy birthday.” she explained.
The girls laughed and began to ask questions. Matsua ignored them. Shira leapt up. “Lets play truth or dare!” she
said. Hara grinned. “Well, since you suggested it, you can go first.” Shira nodded. “Truth or Dare?” “Um
……….. Truth.” “Ok.” the girls gathered in a group. They all nodded and Matsua pulled out. “Shira … have
you ever dreamt about kissing a boy, and who?” she asked. Shira turned red. “Does daydreaming count?” “Yes.”
Shira blushed even harder. “Well … um … um … Do I have to?” “YES!” cried the girls. “Well
……………….. K-Kaii.” Shira blurted out, and she covered her face. “KAII!!!!” they screamed, rolling
around laughing. Shira regretted ever thinking about this game. She knew this always happened. “Kaii? You can dream
about any guy in the world and you chose Kaii?!” choked Lina, her throat sore from too much laughing. “Well, he’s
really smart, and um, you know, quite cute.” Shira blushed. “Cute!” exclaimed Hara, laughing. They collapsed in a
pile and Shira pretended to stomp away. Hara reached out and Shira fell onto top of the pile of giggling girls. A
waitress walked in, carrying a tray of pizza. “Oh! Maybe later.” the woman laughed. Matsua struggled out from under
her friends and ran to get the pizza. She took it from the waitress who disappeared. Shira’s phone bleeped. “It’s
from Kaii.” she said, reading the text. “Shira and Kaii, sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.” chanted Lina and
Matsua. “There’s a Dark Saint and a creature heading for your father’s offices.” Shira said to Matsua.
“Daddy! Why did this have to be today!” “Lunar Saruwatari!” “Lunar Hara!” “Lunar Matsua!” “Lunar
Lina!” “Lunar Shira!” “ACTIVATE!”
The girls ran to the Jokiuao Offices. A huge bear-like beast was advancing towards the building, Haru flying above it.
Saru raised her staff. “Sapphire Spear!”. The bear was knocked away and it hit a billboard. It lumbered towards
Saruwatari, who dodged it and ran to her friends. Lina attacked, but the beast simply glowed and replied to her attack
with a swipe with it’s paw. The girls tried and tried, but the bear did not respond. “It’s not working!”
shouted Shira. “Duh!” screamed Matsua, dodging. Shira had a flash of inspiration. “Give me your weapons!” she
called. “Are you crazy!” shouted Saru. “Just do it!!!!!!!” Shira told her. The girls threw the grenades, staff,
ring, and dagger, and Shira caught. On each weapon, she found a small gem. She placed all the weapons together and put
her wand in the centre. “Lunar Gem Stars! The power of five can defeat evil and you will assist us!” she screamed,
raising the wand to the sky. The lilac outfit turned to white, but her eyes pure purple. Her friends did the same.
“Sapphire!” “Amber!” “Emerald!” “Ruby!” “Amethyst!” they called, and shots of multicolour light
shot from their bodies. They surrounded the bear who disappeared. The girls collapsed with exhaustion. Haru almost
exploded with anger. Then he flew forward and grabbed Shira shoulders. He raised one hand and a long red dagger
appeared in his hand. He grinned and laughed. Shira screwed her eyes up and waited for the dagger to strike. But it
didn’t. “No!” shouted a male voice. Shira opened her eyes. Kaii stood, his arm stopping Haru from attacking. Haru
lunged at Kaii, but he dodged. Haru snarled and disappeared. Kaii’s face relaxed, but he looked at Shira and ran.
Shira got up and ran after him. He ran into the park, but Shira ran so much faster as a Lune. She stopped him. “Why
did you do that?” she said quietly. “Because …” he whispered, his fringe hiding his face. “I love you.” he
shouted, and he ran. Shira stood there, shocked. She fell to her knees. She was confused. She had found out she loved
Kaii … so why did she feel like this? She was exhausted, and her combination maturation had almost killed her. But
after hearing that, she didn’t feel tired. She felt isolated for some strange reason.
Shira tossed and turned in bed. Did she love him? If so, she would be glad that he loved her … Or maybe he didn‘t,
and maybe it was a dream? Did she love him, or was it a mistake? God she hated hormones. What on earth was she gonna
do? A tear rolled down her cheek and splashed on her pillow. It was too much. Any normal girl her age had enough to
handle, with school and boys and puberty… yet she had to worry about the safety of the world. Another tear fell. She
would have to talk to Kaii tomorrow ............ She would say sorry and tell him that .......................... she
loved him too.
Shira nervously walked into the shop. Kaii was working at the desk, his back to her. The customer he was serving left,
and Shira tried to get her courage back. "Kaii-" "Shira... I'm sorry, ok? I-I didn't mean it ... I love you ... as a
f-friend." he stuttered, and gave a nervous smile. Shira tried to return that smile. "But ... I-I love you ..." she
said, a smile on her face and a tear on her cheek. Kaii froze, his eyes wide open. He turned to face her.. but instead
he met her lips.
Goodbye!
