World of Elegence~

About the charater.
Simply put, Keiichi is a nice guy. He tries to be nice to everyone, and doesn't like to
see anyone hurt, or hurt anyone himself. He even tries to reason with Welsper, even while
the latter is trying to kill him.
However, Keiichi isn't stupid because he thinks about doing (though sometimes quite
gullible), and can (and will) speak out if the situation calls for it. He is also rather
intelligent; for example, once he answered a test full of complex chemical and mechanical
questions in two minutes flat while the other students were struggling with more
Keiichi's pure and innocent personality also puts him in the middle of an unusual love
relationship. While he understands he loves Belldandy (and she loves him as well), he
sometimes has a difficult time expressing his feelings. However, there is no mistaking the
bond between them, as he and Belldandy had passed the ultimate test of true love in the
Ah! My Goddess Movie. Finally, he also seems to exhibit unadulterated purity in his
actions; he helps out others in need, he rarely complains about setbacks, and always
attempts to be truthful about any situation.
In the Manga, Keiichi's personality was illustrated when he was able to summon one of the
Valkyrie Lind's own Angels, Cool Mint. According to Lind, he was able to host the angel
with the "love of goddesses" which he received due to his innocent personality. Because of
the love from the three goddesses for Keiichi, he was more than capable to handle
controlling the angel.
Later on, Keiichi also temporarily and involuntarily hosts the demon-angel Blue Lance
(then unnamed). The reason why the angel chose him to be the host at random was explained
as that he was the only person referencing to her as an "angel" and not a "former demon".
Belldandy complimented him that it was natural for him to not even notice it.
The "magical girl" character, of which Belldandy is an example, typically combines
powerful abilities with very feminine characteristics. For Western audiences, a
comparison can be drawn with the characters of Samantha Stephens from Bewitched and
Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie. As such, Belldandy is depicted as being very
sweet and exceptionally kind-hearted, with very "old-fashioned" sensibilities. Combined
with domestic skills portrayed through the series and her loyalty to Keiichi, this
makes her a classic example of the concept of Yamato Nadeshiko.
Belldandy is exceptionally kind-hearted, even for a goddess. She can easily sense other
people's emotions, and tries her best to be empathetic to all those around her, displaying
a combination of "serene beauty and acceptance". She rarely holds a grudge, and is
always willing to forgive anyone who does injury to her. Her good will is so complete that
she is willing to trust everyone completely, save her sister Urd, whom she realizes can
often be duplicitous. However, even though Belldandy tries her best to be as kind as
possible, it is revealed that at times, as a result of latent jealousy, she can become
very insecure and sad, especially when she is confronted with an implication that involves
Keiichi in one way or another. This aspect of her character provides one of the
biggest plot points in the Ah! My Goddess movie: Belldandy's possessiveness of Keiichi
could make her an easy target for manipulation or even brainwashing, if the right buttons
were pressed; her jealousy of Morgan Le Fay was what allowed Celestin, her teacher, to
lure Belldandy into his plans.
As noted by Perper and Cornog, Belldandy, as a depiction of a Goddess, is comfortable
"being loved and admired", and very much aware of her own beauty. This doesn't equate
to vanity, however - she is still modest and demure, sensual but innocent, as is often
demonstrated through her interactions with Keiichi. The overall balance of the character
allows Belldandy to be depicted as the "straight (wo)man" to the wilder Urd and Skuld in
The Adventures of Mini-Goddess.
Skuld started as very protective of Belldandy and interpreted anyone having any kind of
intimate relationship with her an attempt to steal Belldandy from her. She and Banpei
repeatedly placed restrictions to limit Belldandy's and Keiichi's relationship. For a
brief while it was also implied that Skuld had a crush on Keiichi; the 2nd special episode
of the 1st TV series (where she's grown up for a day) explored this angle by placing Skuld
and Keiichi in situations where they appear as a couple. Over time ground rules have been
worked out and there haven't been any recent episodes of relationship restrictions.
Skuld also doesn't appear to get along with her oldest sister, Urd perhaps because Urd is
somewhat the opposite of Belldandy. However, it is slowly revealed that Skuld and Urd
share a complex love-hate relationship, and so even when they are gambling violently over
rights to the television, it is obvious that they are "the very best of friends."
Being the inventor that she is, Skuld loves anything technical, but hates inefficiencies,
flawed creations, and useless mechanics (such as toys). This is Urd's favorite way of
punishing Skuld whenever she touches or breaks any of Urd's potions and such, by making
her create gadgets that do absolutely nothing useful. She has a tendency to get carried
away fixing or improving anything she sees inefficient. Even when her original intention
is to destroy it, she always ends up with something much better, (and usually more
destructive). Most of her inventions, more often than not, have extra functions that make
situations more complicated, including a self-destruct device in almost everything
(including her Robot Wars robot...).
Holy Bell is Belldandy's angel
Urd is Belldandy's older half sister and is the second Goddess to appear to
Keiichi. Urd ranks as Goddess second class, management category limited license, similar
to her youngest sister Skuld. She is the Yggdrasil System Administrator and Manager.
Though she is much more powerful than her sisters, she could not become a first class
goddess because she only wanted power to protect her sisters, not power to protect all
beings. Urd shares a common father with her younger sisters, but has a different mother,
the Demon Lord Hild. Because of this, Urd is a hybrid of Goddess and Demon, reflected in
the half-white, half-black appearance of her Angel, World of Elegance.
World of Elegence is Urd's angel.
Chrono , Ere, and Ex are three goddesses who maintain Yggdrasil. They generally
help Peorth, Lind and such by giving relevant exposition, or lines to increase dramatic
tension. They also serve as people for Peorth or Lind to give orders to, allowing the
commanding character to verbally direct the conflict, and to explain the dangerous nature
of certain actions.
Lind is the fifth Goddess to appear in the series. Lind is a Valkyrie, a member of
the battle division of Heaven. Like the Goddesses Belldandy and Peorth, Lind carries a
First Class License. However, unlike the other two, Lind's license is classified as
'Special Duty, Unlimited,' which denotes her position as a Valkyrie.
Spear Mint and Cool Mint are Lind's angels. (they are both twins)
Peorth is the fourth goddess of the series, and she enters the story when Keiichi
accidentally calls her up one day, much like he did Belldandy. She is part of the Earth
Help Center, and a Goddess First-class, Second Category, Unlimited. For a time, Peorth
harboured a deep resentment towards Belldandy because Belldandy had reported the removal
of a bug in Yggdrasil as a team effort. Believing Belldandy was pitying her, she held a
grudge. However, after the misunderstanding is cleared up, Peorth remarks that she does
not hate Belldandy anymore, and in recent appearances the two seem to be on friendly
terms once again. Her magic is based on the element of Earth, mainly associated with
roses, as with her angel, Gorgeous Rose.
Gorgeous Rose is Peorth's angel.
Hild is the ultimate Demon in Hell, known as the Ruler of Demonkind. She is
incredibly powerful, with her power dwarfing even the combined strength of the three
goddesses. Despite her immense power, she respects the doublet system, and thus limits
her power, to prevent killing any of the Goddesses. She is Urd's mother, whom she loves
deeply, though Urd doesn't return the feeling. She dislikes Belldandy, whom she tries to
corrupt or hurt several times throughout the series.
Marller was once the childhood friend of the goddesses who are the main
characters, though now she's a demon. Urd and Mara used to be very good friends, but got
separated when Urd chose to be a goddess. Her actual duty is to increase the market share
of the demons on earth, though she decides that removing the goddesses will make it one
Chihiro is the original founder and director of the Nekomi Institute of Technology
Motor Club. She is an incredibly skilled mechanic and motorcycle driver, even more so
Keiichi. She starts up her own motorcycle shop called Whirlwind and hires Keiichi to work
for her. She has a soft spot for cute objects, cats and children.
Sayoko Mishima is a popular girl at Nekomi Tech, to the point where she considers
herself the "queen" of the school. She's also quite rich, coming from a wealthy family.
She has her own apartment, an expensive car, and gets to throw lavish parties with very
important people. When Belldandy appears, all the guys' attention turn to her rather than
Sayoko. Mishima begins to get jealous of Belldandy and wants to make her upset by
Keiichi, even though she does not have any interest in him.
Megumi Morisato is Keiichi Morisato's younger sister. She attends the Nekomi
Institute of Technology (NIT), like Keiichi, as an engineering student. Megumi is also a
very skilled mechanic and motorcycle driver. She goes on to become the "queen" of bike
racers around Nekomi. Belldandy has remarked that she sees a similarity between Megumi
and Skuld, and that she would like to see Skuld learn some things from Megumi.
Shiho Sakakibara is a freshman in electronics at Nekomi Institute of Technology.
She is also a second year correspondence course student in exorcism. Shiho first makes
herself known to Keiichi through a secret letter that Keiichi, Urd, and Belldandy take to
be a love letter. When Keiichi approaches the rendezvous mentioned in the letter with
Belldandy and Urd, he finds that she is indeed very cute. However, she does not seem
interested in a relationship with Keiichi, rather only to find out whether or not he is
possessed by a demon. She is invited back to Keiichi's residence. At times, she becomes
too friendly with Keiichi, making Belldandy jealous.
