Dolores made laps around the cruel chlorine pool, once in a while flipping when
she got to a deep end or even jumping up out of the water. She was completely nude, but
that was completely shadowed by the fact that, at her hips, a tail blossomed instead of
legs. It was bright orange with alarmingly violet fins, the scales trailing up her belly
and covering her breasts. She hated the chlorine, but it was better than dumping rock salt
into her bathtub.

Darion walked towards the pool, his hands in his navy blue swimming trunk pockets, whistling a tune he was learning on the piano. A black towel draped on his left shoulder to dry off after he swam for exercise. His bangs waved slightly in the top of his vision, his hair free of styling gel since he was getting in the pool and wasn't planning to go anywhere else. His pale skin reflected most of the sunlight. His eyes stayed squint with his nose slightly scrunched to see the pool, which reflected the clear sky from above. It wasn't until he got closer he could actually hear the water move unnaturally. Someone was in the pool. This caused him to freeze his pace momentarily, wondering if he should go back to fix his hair. He needed to dress to impress. He decided not to however, remembering he was going to swim anyways, getting his hair wet and stuck to his forehead. There was no point in fixing the hair if it wasn't going to last. He moved forward, passing a decorative wall that blocked the view of the pool, noticing it was a female in the water instead of a male. He gave himself a half smile, laughing at himself for getting worked up over nothing. She wasn't what he craved for. Therefore, he didn't have to worry to impress her.

Not noticing that there was someone else, Dolores swam to the side of the pool and pulled herself up, so her tail was still in the water. Her long, usually wavy dark hair was weighed down by all the water, her clear blue eyes tinged red from the chlorine. She'll never get used to it. She made a mental note to buy "45 kilogramas de sal", for her baths. And for sleeping.

Darion basically ignored her popping up out of the water. He wasn't ever the one to get social first. Especially when it comes to him working out. He preferred to be left alone. Unless, of course, another guy was checking him out. He would work harder and pretend to not notice, but it wasn't like it mattered all too much, since she was the only one here. He laid his towel on the decor rocks some distance from the pool and slipped off his sandals. He stretched his arms and legs, counting silently to thirty for each limb. He shook himself off and took a few steps away from the edge, then running and diving in. He swam from one end to the other under the water, coming up coughing. Damn chlorine. I was hoping it was ionized water. He reached to the wall with his foot and kicked off, starting his pool laps.

Dolores was the first to try to make conversation. She dove back into the water,
trying to block his laps. That was, at least what her family did when they wanted to get
people's attention. "¡Hola!" She said happily.

Darion hadn't realized she was in front of him until last minute. He jerked his way to the side, slightly panicked and confused. It took a moment for his kind to process the other language she spoke. He knew few Spanish phrases, enough to tell her he couldn't speak it, that is. "Oh, um...Hola. No hablo español. Hablo ingles." His eyebrows furrowed together as he thought and translated when he wanted to say. It had been a while, so it was a slow response, his gears working and breaking figurative webs. He couldn't remember how to apologize, so he gave the expression, hoping it was good enough. He started with his laps again, unsure if she knew how to speak English, or if she was even going to bother doing so.

"Oh...uh, I am sorry." Her spoken English was slow, formal. She had excelled in her classes, but her brain was addled by the chlorine. She swished her alarmingly colored tail.

Darion spoke at her pace, knowing the difficulties of translating when you aren't native to the language you are using to communicate. "It's fine. Do you need something?" His phrasing was more on the rude side, yet his tone was gentle, actually holding some care. Maybe she wanted information? His eyes didn't even bother looking at her tail, half was because he was uninterested in her appearance, other half was because he thought she would get offended. A fresh dose of chlorine was pumped through the filters, the smell lingering in the air under his nose, a few inches above the water as he stood. The pool was a deep one, but got more shallow as you got closer to the entry of the pool. Darion's locks of hair now straight and stuck to his face, he used his hand to pull it back. The water that lingered in it was rolling down his face, making it hard to keep his eyes open and focused on the mermaid, awaiting her answer.

Dolores shook her head, adding "Somebody to talk to?" Her brilliant blue eyes, matching the color of the pool water from far away, were slightly gritty, red-tinged. Even when she had closed her first eyelid, that damned chlorinated water got through. How cold people survive in it? She closed the eyelid again, a clear lens sliding vertically over her eyes.

Darion nodded his head slowly. Then, he thought of ways to turn down her offer. He was here to work out, not to socialize. He bit his lower lip for a second. "I'm sorry, but I'm currently doing something, and I have somewhere to be in the next hour, so I don't think I'll have time to talk..." His voice trailed on the last word. He didn't really have to be somewhere later, he just planned to visit the gay bar he started to go to frequently. It was easier to meet men that way. All he had to do was take away one year from his birth to make him slightly older so he can enter without issue. His nose twitched as the smell of chlorine lingered under it. He was tempted to wipe his face, but he was being stared at. If he avoided her gaze, he would feel inferior to her. It was part of his insecure side to him, and to keep it from showing he did mental exercises and tricks, such as this one, too keep it away. It didn't help that she had second eyelids that were clear, though. He felt as if he wasn't suppose to blink.

Shrugging, Dolores blinked her real eyelids and then dove back into the water, spraying everywhere and almost creating a perfect rainbow.
