The Italian man arrested in connection with the kidnap of Madeleine McCann was denounced
to police by a Spanish lawyer. Danilo Chemello contacted the lawyer claiming he knew
"things" about the missing girl.
Danilo Chemello, 61, and his girlfriend Aurora Pereira Vaz, 56, were seized yesterday in a
dawn raid at a luxury 'fortress' in Sotogrande, Cadiz, in the south of Spain. It is the
case's most significant development in weeks.
The couple are thought to have been attempting to extort €4m from the McCanns, but
investigations are still continuing as to whether they have any involvement in the case,
according to the Portuguese press.
Police discovered a small bed made up in the garage of Chemello's apartment, which had
