A SOCIETY OF B E A S T S An area of tall trees and much dirt, the woods is a calming area free of people, for the most part. It has, luckily, escaped a lot of the destruction that the war has caused, making it seem like a heaven on earth for those who bother to come. Not many people roam to deep into the forest, for fear of never being able to escape. Keep your senses alert and you might notice a wandering faerie or a nymph...

Riegan skipped through the forest, pulling Berkeley along with her as fast as he would move. They just had to get to the large opening near the center of the forest... They made it in no time. On their way there she kept quiet. She feared he'd ask more questions about Melinda and not want to meet her. She let go of his arm and skipped a few feet away, turning towards him and smiled. "Are you ready to meet my friend?" She asked sweetly. She hoped he considered her advice from her before and didn't run...

Berkeley looked at her as if she was some deformed mutant, his arms stiff at his side.
"Well, I don't think I have a choice," he snapped. Whoever that Melinda was, he hoped she
was less physical and drag-y than her friend. Physical contact was so unnecessary.

"So yeah, I'm ready," he huffed, impatience present in his eyes. He surveyed the area,
wondering what was in store for him.

"Hope so~" She giggled and looked over her shoulder. "Melinda~ This boy wants to meet you! He is my friend, Berkeley. Stop hidding and come out. Greet him and be polite, please~." She returned her attention to Berkeley, watching for his reaction. The air shimmered behind her. Slowly, a large form took place. Something as tall as the empire state building appeared. The color of a glossy sand was the color of the large beast. Emerald Green eyes were sharp, staring at Berkeley. Her wings flapped a few times before resting on the ground. A chain around it's neck appeared and linked to her bracelet. Melinda, her dragon, appeared. "What do you think of Melinda, Berkeley?"

Berkeley fought the urge to not let his mouth gape. He'd sincerely thought Melinda was
just another girl like Riegan, but no, it was a dragon. Honestly, he shouldn't have been
surprised, seeing slimy creatures and blue-skinned people walking around, but he'd never
seen a dragon before.

Startled, for a moment all he could do was shoot the both of them a confused stare. When
he finally found his voice, he spit out, "You're joking, right?" while gesturing to the
dragon and the girl, and the leash-like chain linking them.

"Why would I lie?" She crossed her arms and gave him a certain stare. The kind that either makes your cringe or believe anything you say. She shook her head. Honestly, she wanted to laugh at his reaction, but, for now, she was going to hold it in. The wind blew slightly, making some of Riegan's hair blow in her sight, then it laid next to her face where it once was. "You are part doll. I tame dragons. Well, dragon. I haven't met another one besides Melinda, anyways. Apparently the race is rare now than they use to be." Riegan smiled. "Want to pet her?"

Berkeley pressed his lips together, as if holding back a flood of insults and retorts
trying to force themselves out. Her look, once again, made him hesitate. It was like the
ball and chain to his voice. It was a sullen realization, but was muffled slightly by the
satisfaction of the words "part doll."

With his eyes full of uncertainty, he responded, "I don't think it's a good idea to resist
something that could so easily overpower me in the middle of nowhere," and slowly closed
the space between him and Riegan and her dragon.

Riegan watched as he gave a struggling face at first. It was like he was keeping something to himself. She watched him as his face slowly became hesitant, then turned to realization. She wondered what went through his mind, but didn't ask. It was his personal place to figure what to do next, and she found it best not to interfere with it. "Overpower?" She mumbled, shaking her head. "Melinda isn't agressive unless you are a threat to me. If you even so touch me wrong in her presence she'd throw you far with her tail." She flinched at the thought. "Which would kill you instantly, since your body is fragile." She sighed and her eyes looked at him up and down as he walked, looking for any signs of pain or terror. He was somewhat frightened, but it wasn't enough to cause him to turn and run away. Something kept him being near her. Now that she thought about it, when everyone else would leave her, he never did. Huh. Riegan wondered what could have gotten him to do that.

"Yeah. Fragile," Berkeley echoed monotonously. Fragility and daintiness were such
oppressive flaws, yet he jutted his hand out towards the dragon, and his fingers twitched-
his mind's last effort to tell him it was the worst idea he'd ever come across.

"Should- Should I just...?" he said, unable to word it out. How was he going to ask how to
pet a dragon? It wasn't in anyone's mind to ever wonder it. His spoken word overlapped his
thoughts: "Are you crazy? You don't know how to do this. It's going to take one sniff
at your glass skin or whatever and fling you across Kymira. Stop it. Stop it right
now."

"It's like petting a dog or pet lizard. You stroke it in the direction the scales lay." She lifted her hand and placed it over his, pressing it against Melinda gently. The scales over laped on another going in the direction of the tail, so she moved his hand that way. "If you do it gently and slowly, it gives her chills and she'll take liking to you a lot faster." She continued to move his hand over the dragon's body. "Relax." She whispered in his ear, knowing he was somewhat thinking that this was crazy and fearing her flinging him away. "I'll keep her from hurting you anyways." She looked up at the dragon who's head had lowered near the two of them. Riegan smiled and left Berkeley's side momentarily. She walked up to the dragon and rubed it's cheek. A little further down to the top of her neck she scratched the scales, making the dragon tremble some. "She's just like a pet dog. Just no fur." Riegan smiled and laughed, looking at Berkeley.

Berkeley shuddered slightly as she brought his hand to the dragon, and his fingers
tickled slightly as he began to pet her. It actually felt a little calming, and his
nervousness about being near such a large and beastly creature began to decrease slowly.
Even after Riegan released his hand, he continued to pet the dragon as she had showed.

"I don't really talk about my feelings or whatever," he began by stating the obvious. He
realized if he was going to confess something, now would be the correct time. "But when
you called me part-doll, I felt kinda happy. I didn't realize I had some human left in
me." He felt ashamed by that, and focused his eyes on the part of the dragon he was
petting, not wanting to make eye contact.

Riegan at first was confused when he said he didn't speak of his feelings. It kind of threw her off. She knew as much by talking to him since they met, but she didn't think he would admit it aloud. She looked back at her dragon quietly, kissing it's cheek before letting her eyes fall back on Berkeley. She immediately realized he kept from making eye contact. She smiled as he said he was happy for what she had said. "Well, there is a reason why I said it. You have feelings, as you had stated before. You breath, you speak, and I bet you eat. All to survive. If you aren't part human, what are you? Can't be part animal, because that's what humans are considered as." She tilted her head to the side, being completely honest and meaning no offense. "Ever since I was little I believed everything has feelings. Even if it's something that is non-living so to speak. The way it's made or formed shows it's creators emotions, and those emotions that was used to make it will forever be it's emotions. Just my opinion. It may seem silly, but to me it makes the world go round."

"You think too happily." His glass eyes showed puzzlement and thin eyebrows scrunched
together. "You think badly of yourself but you think all awesomely of others, like
apparently nonliving stuff like baking soda or something. What's up with that?" He
couldn't help but pick apart her words. It just didn't make sense to him.

He didn't realize he was still petting the dragon, and slowed down. He remembered what
Riegan said about how protective the dragon was, and did not wish to be flung into bark.

"Too happily? When it comes to thinking, there is never too happy or too sad. And it's not that I think terribly of myself, but I do think I deserve far worse than what I have." Riegan noticed him starting to be weary of the dragon once again. She had to stiffle a giggle. "She'll only fling you if you physically harm me. Don't be afraid to speak your mind." She tucked a few locks of her hair behind her ear as the wind started to blow, causing her bangs to move around in her face.

"Yeah, whatever. That's weird. I don't think I'll ever understand how you think," he
proclaimed bluntly. He held off on petting the dragon and instead stepped back some more
and observed it. It was a bit intimidating, but curiosity got the best of him.

"I'll just stand back here. You do your...whatever dragon stuff you do," he said. He
raised his hands up slightly, indicating he was backing off.
