at the mouth of a river
there lived a hermit

and this old hermit
lived her life alone

she was content
more than happy

for she had never
known any pain

she had the love
of her plants

and the company
of the birds

so she never felt
lonely or sad

one day when she
was singing to the birds

an old man came
and watched her

he was nice and
charming and bright

so she wanted desperately
for him to stay

they fell in love
and were happy

until one day
he left her

there was no reason
no answer given

he was gone
and she was heartbroken

he had shown her a new love
and then taken it away

so she lived for a few years
in her silent raging anger

until another traveller
came her way

he was young and
handsome and gay

so she offered him a
room for the night

he refused and
bid her good day

another person leaves me
she thought to herself

she grasped her knife
and her hurt showed itself

as he turned away
she slit his throat

and as he died she said to him
no one will ever leave me again

so it was
from that day on
