Three years ago I wrote you a poem
Extolling your grace and your beauty
You're nineteen now and almost grown
And just look at all you've done to me
Taught me to love, When I thought that I couldn't
Taught me to hope, When I knew that I shouldn't
And now loved me and left me alone
Yes you're nineteen now and almost grown
The angels yet weeping now anxiously pace
For while still jealous of all that you are
They're fearful of the choices you face
And while catching your star
You've grown as you stretched
(Adorning your beauty with wisdom)
My heart lays open and wrenched
But comfort I find in this that I know
That while you're nineteen now and almost grown
Along the way I did help you to grow.
