“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that
something else is more important than fear.”
Species: High Elf/Shapeshifter
Personality: "Fearless. I am without fear. I need no one but myself to survive
this dispicable world. Baggage gets in the way, and love destroys you. I am a bird flying
freely over the dystopian ruins. Or at least... I thought I was..."
There is a certain grace to the birds that soar up high within the Heavens; a kind of
beauty that can only be admired from afar. Little songbirds that sing so merrily in the
treetops, only then to be devoured by the swift, merciless hawk that glowers from higher
up. A dove that coos tenderly in reply to the monsterous thunderclap above. The glowing
Cardinal that seems to shine so brightly in comparison to the towering piller of rubble it
constructs in nest within.
An unatainable beauty to those who carry on with aching feet, and no wings to lift their
heavy bodies, and releive them of the unforgiving pain the ground bares. A loveliness that
Adelaide is mercilessly taunted with. To fly far away from the burdens of the quiet, musty
house in which she must confine herself every night; break free of the chains that keep
her bound to the dreadful kingdom in which she was born to; sing victoriously in the face
of all those who wish to be rid of her... those are her rawest desires.
For what else can a tiny bird with broken wings long for?
Yet... with such intense longing comes a passion that cannot easily be broken... and a
will as strong, and set as stone. Eventually, the little broken bird must find a way to
make a life worth living; a life that isn't wasted gazing up at a beauty she can never
attain. Adelaide, or Hattie as her mother calls her (though she'd never willingly reveal
the childish nickname to others...), appears at first to be anything but the broken
bird that she is compared to. Her feirce pride keeps her from showing any kind of weekness
to others willingly, physical or emotional. Though she may look dainty and fragile, her
temper, and sour glares keep her from being seen as an easy target to theives, and the
wandering gangs that patrol the crime ridden kingdom. The sensitivity that others dare to
hope may lie deep within her is well hidden, and has so far only been spared for her
mother, and a few close companions that she hates to admit she has (and perhaps they too,
hate to admit their companionship with such a bitter creature).
Abilities: Adelaide is half shapeshifter, half elf, which can lead to some rather
random talents. Naturally, she should be able to tranform into the animal that is most
realated to her family lines, which in her case consists of birds; however, no one has yet
to see her transform in public. She is known to be a talented hunter, and is quick on her
feet (as she's needed to escape more then a few sticky situations in her time...). She's
often seen with an odd fox-like creature that no one really wants to observe too closely
since there is quite a nasty story about its bite. It is rumored that Adelaide posesses
the Healing Toutch that Elves of high, often royal ranking posess, which has lead
to some pretty fantastic rumors.... though she's never confirmed that she has any sort of
power. The again, the bitter girl really doesn't talk much about herself to begin with...
~She is a rock; unbending, unyeilding, impatient, hotheaded... and yet still to her
incredible frustration, she appears vulnerable. Perhaps it's her large grey eyes with tiny
flecks of deep blue, and long feathery lashes that make her face too-sweet. Or maybe the
rosey flush that colors her cheeks whenever her monsterous temper lashes out at any poor,
unsuspecting victim that caused it to awaken. The bitter little bird tries her best to
hide her sweet face behind a mess of dirty blonde tangles that she cuts frequently to rest
on her shoulders, and shade her too-large eyes. She appears to be more elf looking then
shapeshifters who normally appear to simply be human. Her height is average for a female
elf, though her body size is too frail to be ordinary dispite the little bit of muscle
that she's collected from her woodsy habits, and days of hunting. Still, it is obvious
that the blood of the elves run through her veins.
Other: Elves and shapeshifters simply don't reproduce together due to their
extremely different lifespans. However, when Adelaide was born with the blood of the two
species, her abilities and lifespan are completely unknown. At 60 years old, she appears
to be in her late teens when comparing her to a human, or typical shapeshifter, which
isn't too different from an ordinary elf.
