There is only one school in the entire City, and it hosts youth of all grades --
kindergarten through twelfth grade. However, there are no colleges or universities in the
City, which is why many leave to study elsewhere; some never come back. Basic classes are
mandatory; however, there are classes specifically designed for the training of abilities
(if one's ability can be wielded as a weapon or a defense mechanism). Quite a few teachers
in the school still hit their students with rulers if they misbehave, and the school board
tends to overlook this.

Hyo looked up at the school without ease, feeling the tense in him grow as he took
a step each time. He was nervous; always was to new places like this, but it was a time
that he decided to finish school, and it felt to him it was the wrong time. What would his
parents say? They didn't care, but he did wonder what they would said. With a sigh and a
shake of his head, he took larger steps and kept his head high, despite the exaggerating
look in his eyes giving him a headache.

Adele kept her head down, not daring to look at anyone for fear of striking up a
conversation. The pathway to the school was always rather busy in the morning; after all,
that was how the majority of students got to classes (those who attended, anyway). It
always struck her as odd how she was the only one who cared not to get herself into a
crowded space -- then again, she was also the only one whose own emotions would complain
and shout at her until she moved.

"This again?" asked the mass, one of its heads leaning over her shoulder. "You know
there's no point. You're only ever focusing on what they're feeling, and you get so worked
up that you can't focus."

"Shut up, alright? We're going here every day whether you like it or not," said Adele
sharply, "and I'm trying."

"Your grades aren't getting any better," the mass replied.

"I don't care," Adele said, which was a lie. Further the girl walked until she noticed one
boy and, trailing behind him, a pitiable creature who shook with every step --
nervousness. Not altogether common. Meticulously studying the movements of both the
creature and the boy, she stopped walking, and someone bumped into her from behind; this
sent her flying to the ground with her emotions screaming at her. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry,
I'm sorry," she whispered, her voice barely audible as she ran off, too afraid to shoot a
glance at the person who had bumped into her. Tears bit at her eyes as she returned to
walking speed.

Well, that had been a scene.

Hyo tried shaking of the weary feeling that put weight onto his shoulder, but knew
it wouldn't go until he gave himself a chance and finally get over the nervousness.
Sighing, he was interrupted by brief steps when he heard the sound of something hit the
ground, something he hadn't heard in a while. Turning to look over his shoulder, his eyes
widened and he froze before swiftly running over, pulling off the bag from his shoulder to
help the girl that had fallen. He looked up to see who had bumped into her, but was lost
in track as he looked back down at her. "Are.. you okay!?" he asked softly, furrowing his
brow and squatting low to see her face; he gently pressed his hand onto her shoulder as
his eyes brightened a bit and he felt the sudden rush of different but very dark feelings
compress in him. What the..?

Concern. It was the same boy who had been so terribly nervous just moments
before, and now before her was both him, in squatting position, and a giant lion-like
beast stooping over the two, picking her up and cradling her in its arms, its eyes bright
and --

"'I..." Adele slouched awkwardly in response to this new feeling, fear shrinking to a baby
and becoming confusion. To anyone else, she looked as if she'd spaced out, but she thought
she was looking up at the creature before her, it having scooped her up with such a need
to soothe her. Usually, concern was condescending. She hated that.

Suddenly, she felt the boy touch her shoulder, and she was broken out of her trance. Utter
confusion, wailing in the distance, promptly became fear again, slithering over to meet
her. "W-what?" Her gaze faltered and her head bowed as she bit her lip hard, trying not to

Hyo noticed the feeling in her eyes; confusion, and then the tears that set in her
eyes amazed him. He slowly bit his lip to keep himself calm, removing his hand and
understanding she didn't seem to like it much, to the extent that she almost began to cry.
"I-I'm sorry, I was just wondering if you need... help getting up." he suggested, pulling
himself up half way and lending out his hand, though the weird feeling he got and the
strong presence intimidated him. "Can you stand?"

"Stupid!" Fear hissed, surrounding her completely so that the outside world was
muffled. "You idiot! Look what you just did and tell me you're not a fucking imbecile!
That guy probably hates you, you moron!"

"Stop it," muttered Adele, lifting her knees up and placing her head in her arms, resting
on top of her legs. "Stop it."

"We're your only friends, you know," all Fear's heads said at once, "and I'd be scared of
this guy if I were you. Look at you! You're completely helpless." It churned and laughed
as it spoke, and Adele now completely ignored any other presence. She was now plainly
crying, rocking herself lightly inside the invisible chamber.

"Go away!" she said finally, to (seemingly) no one in particular. "I can't do

Hyo jumped in surprise and pulled his arm to his chest in habit defense, watching
the girl pull herself into a fetal position and rock herself back and forth, seemingly
talking to herself. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to- I thought you needed help." his voice
whined softly as he restrained himself from putting up too much effort to do anything.
"Maybe I should get you to the nurse's office?" he told mostly to himself, pondering how
to help the girl and what seemed to be her problem. With a sigh, he dropped back again and
looked over whispering into her ear, "Here, everything will be fine. I'm not going to hurt
you." he mumbled, using his slender finger to run up and brush away her tears with a
smile. "There is nothing to be worried about."

The boy's emotions seemed to try and counteract her own, but they were doing a
poor job of it; she could see a battle between the two beasts going on, and concern was
losing. Adele sobbed and thrashed in his arms -- Fear, with its limitless form, was
multitasking, tormenting her still as it fought off the jade-green creature before it.
"Stop," she said, and her voice was shaky, "stop!" Multiple people were staring, their
emotions taking on the form of confusion, worrying, and occasionally, vague disgust.

They reached the school and, still looking down and eyes red and puffy, Adele spoke. "I'm
sorry, I -- please don't hate me, I, um... I really don't want to trouble you, and...
Sorry..." Now completely filled with shame and self-loathing, she stopped moving. "Sorry,
I can walk, I think..."

Hyo let out a soft sigh at his effort, but the stubborn girl won him over. He
slowly pulled back his arms and crossed them, closing his eyes to think as she spoke. "No
need to apologize, though I know something is wrong. I won't be able to help you if you
don't say anything, I'm definitely not the strong type so it's not like I can officially
hurt you in any way." he smiled nervously at his own insult. "If you can walk, that's
good. Just do me this favor and head to the nurse to make sure everything is okay."

"Nothing's wrong, I-I swear! But, um... I don't really want to make you angry,
so..." Fear cackled in the background as Adele fumbled with the straps on her bag. "It's
just that someone was bothering me, I guess -- and you didn't feel like you were going to
hurt me, anyway, or -- no, wait, that didn't sound right, I mean... you felt worried,
or..." Her eyes wandered toward the ground as usual. "I'll just... go to the

Hyo laughed softly at her mumbling and the gibberish words that were coming from
her mouth. "Don't worry, just get to the nurse and everything will be fine. Then I won't
be worried as much." he told her with a shrug. He was glad at his own attempt, but was
having trouble expressing how he felt toward others.

Although she was frightened by the sound of his laughter, soft and cheery though
it was, Adele managed to smile, even if she still would not make eye contact. The beast
following him had turned pink and was now sleeping happily, but occasionally it would
stir, flashing dark green and looking nearly... troubled? The girl focused for so long on
the spot where it was slumbering that she nearly forgot where she was, but she quickly
regained her weak composure. While speaking, her eyes often wandered still to that spot.
"Er -- okay, thank you," said Adele. "I'll make sure to do that, and... what's, uh...
what's your name?" She spoke slowly and her words came out nearly jumbled as she was so
overwhelmed with nervousness. It had been a long time since she'd asked anyone that

Hyo gently smiled down to her and nodded his head, "I am Hyo, what's your name?"
he asked calmly, making straight contact. He knew it would be rough for someone like her
to open up easily, but he imagined it wouldn't take as long as he hoped. He knew she was a
nice person, and it seemed she had trouble with it. He only wished she would talk calmer
and more less nervous, though he also thought about his own nerves coming to the new

"A-Adele," she said finally after a long moment's pause. "I mean, that's my name.
Adele, sorry... you're nervous?" The girl had already been talking (if quietly) and,
having blurted that out, she bowed down lower, blushing with embarrassment. "No, wait! I
mean -- it's nice to meet you, Hyo -- I'm sorry, um..." As she calmed down a bit she
figured it was possible that he would just register her comment as being a result of his
own movements, if he had caught it; yet Hyo seemed like the kind of person who would pay
attention, although she could not fathom why he would still do so in the face of a
pitiable thing like her.
