"Star Child"

I find the day boring,
Oh I have a passion for clouds,
And the purple sunsets,
Of New Mexico,
But I am a child of the stars.
I used to spend whole evenings,
Gazing at their twinkling mystery,
I slept an entire summer,
In a beach chair,
On the roof of the garage,
So that I could see them,
Just as I slipped into slumber,
Of course,
It helped that my parents were inside,
And that we had no electricity,
I could escape these facts,
There on the roof,
The same roof that leaked,
Sievelike--and kept my mother,
Running all night to empty pots,
And jars as they filled,
While I slept,
While my father slept,
While the world slept it seemed,
The sky wept,
But she didn't,
She didn't.
