"Just a student, huh? I'm sure there's more to you than that. All of the students here
are special, not "just" anything." He smiled.
Linden lead the way through the halls, out and across the courtyard and into a small
building surrounded by a larger fenced in area. Many of the larger animals were roaming
the fenced enclosure.
   "Well, this is it."

Ayla blushed and sighed. "I suppose your right. But I like the student part more then I
like the rest of-."

Ayla was soon interrupted by the sight before her. She looked about the scene in
adoration. She all the large animals that were roaming freely about the yard. They were
all beautiful to her eyes. One looked at her and cautiously approached her. Ayla stood
still waiting for it to come closer. It was one of the larger creatures out here and it
caused Ayla a little fear of it's size but as soon as her hand touched it's soft and silky
hair all her fears melted away.

It's bright eyes shone up at her and it opened it's mouth as if smiling. Ayla smiled back.
She looked up at Linden and smiled at him too.

"You don't have to be wary of most of the big ones. Most of them are well seasoned
mounts. Very friendly. The only one you need to worry about is the big, grey hippogryff
over in that corner." Linden pointed across the field. to the farthest corner of the
The large beast was crouched on a rock, staring in their direction with some
aggression. His jet black eyes stood out starkly against his steel grey feathers even at
this distance. "It seems that he's the leader around here. I guess in the year that there
wasn't a teacher around he gained dominance."

Ayla followed to where Linden was pointing and gasped.

A hippogryff! I've never seen one before.

She was tempted to run over to it but with the way it was glaring at them made her blood
run cold. The creature she was petting scampered off to play with some other animals.
Slowly Ayla stood and hid behind Linden.

"Is he violent?"

Linden shook his head. "He hasn't attacked any poeple, but that's probably because most
are too afraid to go near him, myself included, but he's gutted a few of the Sleipnir who
wandered too close."
"We'd better get to feeding the animals." Lots of loud growls and chirps echoed from
the kennels. The animals were getting restless.

Ayla nodded in agreement. Despite how beautiful the hippogryff looked it seeped darkness.
It's dark eyes seemed to stare right through her which sent chills up her spine. They
seemed to beckon her to come to it. She was about to take a step forward when a loud howl
from inisde the building interrupted her from her trance.

Ayla tore her gaze from the hippogryff and stepped towards the building. She turned around
to Linden. "Let's go then! You can show me how it's done." She spoke lightly. Her voice
sounder more perkier and airy to her ears but she didn't care. As long as she got away
from the hippogryff the better.

With a nod, Linden led Ayla to the back of the room. There was a set of large steel
cabinets lined up against the wall. All were clearly labeled alphabetically by species
name and inside was a chart listing weight and serving amount.
"It's all pretty easy." Linden opened the first cabinet and gathered proper amount of
food for the animals into bowls. "You can find the creatures weight and species name on
the door to their kennel. To give them to food you just slide the dish under the door
until this little plastic clip," he pointed to the safety pin like thing at the top of one
of the bowls, "snaps in place."

Ayla listened intently at Linden's instructions and nodded.

She walked over to the next kennel and looked at the information of the creature inside.

Phoenix-60 lbs.

"Ooh!" Ayla cooed under her breath. Looking inside the kennel she saw a very bright red
and yellow bird sitting on a pirch cleaning it's feathers. The colos on it's wings looked
like fire and whenever it moved it's wing it seemed as if the fire moved.

Tearing her gaze away from the beautiful bird Ayla walked over to the food and scooped up
the right amount of food Linden had explained. Carefully she poured it into the food dish
and slowly pushed it in until she heard a faint click. Stepping away she watched as the
Phoenix stopped cleaning itself and flew over to the food eating happily.

Ayla looked over at Linden in wonder. "Do you like animals? I mean, you must like them at
least a little bit to do this every day."

Linden smiled slightly at the question. "I love animals." Maybe it was because they were
more sincere than other creatures, or because he was one himself. As a Lythari, the elvish
equivalent of a lycanthrope or werewolf minus the hybrid humanoid-animal stage, Linden was
able to become a wolf. His elven blood already gave him a stronger tie with nature than
other races, but combined with the wolf blood he was even more in tune with the animals
around him. He could understand them so well, even without being able to speak their

Ayla watched as the man receeded into his thoughts which caused Ayla to smile.

"I love-"

She heard a rustle from behind her. Turning around she went over to investigate what the
sound was. It became louder. Cautiously she stepped even closer.

"Bue!" She whispered loudly.

Her dragon, Bue, was entangled in a long black string which contrasted against his golden

"Bue! You can't be here!" Ayla nervously looked back at Linden hoping he wouldn't notice.

The last of the food bowls snapped into place and Linden stood up to stretch. The whole
feeding didn't take too long, and he was glad. he could continue his search for the
missing Giggy.
He noticed the rustling from around where Ayla was and his hopes were risen. Maybe his
little lizard hadn't even gotten out of the room. He walked over to where the sound was
coming from expecting to see a sleek, ruddy, dragon-esque creature, but instead found a
bright, golden dragon. He was more surprised by it's size than the fact that it was
"Well aren't you are cute little thing," Linden smiled brightly, yet without showing
teeth, as he squatted nearby.

Ayla jumped at the sound of Linden's voice and abruptly turned around to face him. She
watched as he squatted down and cooed to Bue. That's when Bue started to notice Linden. He
brought his defenses up and stood back but after a moment of carefully studying him Bue
relaxed a bit.

Ayla's eyebrows raised a bit. She was surprised. Bue never took kindly to strangers. She
felt herself slowly relax.

Linden resisted the urge to put his hand out to familiarize the dragon with his scent.
Instead, he stood up and straitened his clothes.
"He's cute," Linden said to Ayla, "but not exactly what I was expecting. Any idea where
he came from?"

Ayla's heart started to pound and she frantically searched her mind for an excuse.

"I, uh, d-don't know. He, uh, just appeared."

Bue looked up at her abruptly as if offended.
