History & Personality:
Lilith was a star that was genuinely fascinated by the human world and the inner workings
of machinery, intricate adornments and the human mind. One that spent its days roaming
around and observing the world before she fell, genuinely curious about anything intricate
and complex. Then the star fell out of the sky, into cold, dark waters and got fished out
by sailors. There the seemingly endless cycle began, as she proceeded to bargain and wager
her way out of everything. First it was a compass, then some coins, then everything else.
She was young and beautiful, but never quite as beautiful, as slim, as strong, as fast...
never quite like the others. No one ever knew exactly where she came from, who she
was or what she did. But she did something, and that something always worked. She always
knew what to offer and how to trade. After being thrown off the ship in some small town,
she gambled and traded, until she ended up with a small shop that offered intricate
repairs and rarities. The younger, braver sailors brought her gifts after particularly
long trips that went smoothly, hoping to impress her. She never asked for anything
beautiful or expensive, simply to bring her back something they themselves had never
seen before. Eventually, the small shop filled up with rarities and curiosities - the
newest, the rarest, the most unusual, the most beautiful, fragrant and flavorful. She
began to sell the finest, most unique rarities by word of mouth. The locals ignored her
because no one was quite sure when she arrived, who she was or what she did. And she
allowed them to spread rumors. As a result, she became the strange young woman who
allegedly was worth more alive than dead and kept out of everyone's way. Thanks to
the superstitious, the desperate, the reckless and the greedy, she was rumored to both be
incredibly rich, unbelievably poor, a hag, a woman who slept with all their customers
because sailors, a human scam artist, a witch who would curse you if you
angered her and a million other things. The shop filled, word spread and she just quietly
watched it all unravel, just like in the old days.
OBLIGATORY DISCLAIMER: The sailors didn't sabotage her business because she fixed
navigational equipment. The rich didn't sabotage it because they were too tempted by the
newest, most exotic things she offered. The small merchants ignored her because they sold
different, more common things and didn't consider her competition. The political ignored
her because she improved trade. The thieves ignored her because she let them steal from
her, openly, knowing they would go for the shiniest, most expensive-looking things that
weren't actually the most valuable.
