Fresh air always helped to clear away Jenine's mind when it became too cluttered with stress or panic or ideas. To say that she enjoyed taking strolls outside would be an understatement. She sat with her arms wrapped around her knees near the edge of the lake, made gorgeous by the sunlight twinkling off its waves and the reflections of the autumn leaves still clinging to the branches. She wished she had brought her sketchbook with her. The sight had given her yet another idea for a dress and she wished to jot it down along with a sketch, but she had made herself too comfortable in her position. She would have to take a mental picture and scrawl it down later. She wrapped her knit cardigan tighter around herself to shield her body from the chill, and stared off into space, lost in her thoughts, paying no mind to what time of day it was.

Violet and Alex were sitting at a bench, people watching. He would look up from
his book and she from her knitting every once in a while, and they would mutter to
themselves. It was a "She looks lovely." here and a "Is he a stoner?" there. She was
working on a hat that would match her (purple, frilly) dress and he would read a book,
namely the Silmarillion. And then, a cold looking girl walked past.

"She looks pretty."
"Just like that comic you read?"
"That was a phase."
Violet chuckled, and then kept knitting.

Lainey entered the yard, bored and finished with what work she had left over. She thought
of taking out a cigarette and smoking it, but didn't know if the people around would like
that. She was always mindful of that when she was in public. Not everyone enjoyed
cigarette smoke. Lainey strolled across, taking notice of two individuals talking amongst
each other. They looked like people she could socialize with. Lainey walked over, a smile
on her face.

It was Alexander who looked up first, the glare from his horn-rimmed glasses
obscuring his pink eyes. He tapped his sister's shoulder, and she looked up from her
"Hello." she said, her slight German accent noticeable. Alex greeted her as well.

"Hello," she greeted back. "Name's Lainey," she introduced herself, holding out her hand.
"You two look like you're cool people." She told them. Lainey took in their appearances,
and smiled.

Violet looked up. "Oh, really now?" She asked. She knew she and her brother were
duller than dishwater, but to each his own. Alex talked now.
"My name is Alexander, and this is my twin sister, Violet. We don't go by nicknames." His
accent was slightly thicker than hers, though he was more talkative.

Lainey smiled, switching her stance from one foot to the other. "I noticed you guys have
an accent...Where are you from?" She asked, fidgeting somewhat nervously.

"We were born in Munich, but we moved over here when we were eight." said
Alexander, and then Violet took over for him.
"Our great-aunts took us in, after our father passed. Our mother was American, see?"

Lainey nodded as she listened to their story. "What about your mother? Where is she? You
don't have to answer if you don't want to, I'm just curious," Lainey said quickly, an
eyebrow raised.

"The thought of twins was simply too much to bear for her. She passed in labor. We
never really met her." said Violet, her quiet voice not sad nor quivering in the least

Lainey's larger eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, I'm sorry." Lainey said, standing the sort
of awkwardly. What did one say in a situation like that? She sighed softly, looking down
and thinking of topics to say.

Alexander soon cut in, feeling the tension. "So, how about you? Where are you
from?" He got out his sister's frilly black parasol and held it in between them. It was
getting sunny out.

"Born and raised in good 'ol U.S of A," Lainey said, kind of rolling her eyes, "I lived
in Seattle before coming here. Do you two have a reason for coming here?"'she asked them,.
