Introduction

So, I realized that many writers forget to check for errors in spelling, punctuation,
grammar and capitalization. I also know that many of them don't know where to find good
betas or they just make their friends do the beta-ing.

I don't suggest letting your friends or anyone close to you criticize your work. Unless
they're frank and honest, they'll sugarcoat anything they'll say about your work. :|
It's better to find people online to review and criticize your work before releasing it to
the public. And do it in a way that only you two know what's the content in that chapter.
Why?
Doing it in private and with a stranger makes sure that the person will not be afraid to
say what s/he thinks, due to the fact that nobody but you is there to judge him. They'll
criticize you fairly and without bias. I think that's the most important thing in a
critic. However, the one beta-ing should also know how to tactfully say his/her thoughts
without being too offensive. It's hard enough to accept good critique. I should
know - I've been there.

So, let's get to work!

Rules for Betas

▫ Be polite when negotiating something.
▫ Be sure to be competent.
▫ When a writer asks you to beta but you don't want to do it, decline kindly.
▫ If you are declined in your offer, be gracious enough to accept it.

Rules for Recruiters

▫ Be polite when negotiating something.
▫ If the beta doesn't want to do it, decline kindly.
▫ In reverse, if the beta wants to do it, but you have enough people or for other
reasons you decline, be sure to tell him/her nicely.
▫ If you have found enough betas or the right betas, be sure to strike through your
recruitment form.
▫ If you want a new beta, DO NOT EDIT YOUR POST. Make a new reply.

Form (Betas)
Username: (Self-explanatory)
Name/s: (What you like/prefer to be called)
Age: (Some writers may be picky, preferring an age close to their own, or they want
a wide array, so it's best to fill this one up.)
Contact: (Do you prefer messages, letters or maybe even e-mail? Maybe even offsite
if you want.)
Website: (A fictionpress, a fanfiction.net, a site where you post stories? Those
included at this area will be offsite.)
Good Points: (Honest and frank yet kind and tactful when giving criticism, good at
making suggestions, online a lot - anything that you consider your good point when it
comes to beta-ing.)
Genres: (Genres you're willing to beta, or prefer to beta.)
Literacy Level: (How good are you in English?)
Sample: (THIS IS A MUST. This will be the basis of judgement, most of the time.
Around five sentences will be fine.)
Other: (Any conditions before you agree to beta-ing for a person?)

**Be sure to erase the parenthesis and the text in them.

Form (Betas)
Username: jonan607
Name/s: Lorencia, Loren, Ren, Caffeine, Jonan. I have several nicknames.
Age: Fourteen.
Contact: I prefer letters. If you can, I'd prefer it if you attach the original
file of the story - be sure to save it as MS Word 2003 compatible.
Website: fictionpress, weebly
Good Points: I'm a rather frank person, so when I criticize, I tend to blatantly
say what I think, so you can be sure that I'm honest. However, I can be genuinely nice if
I think your story has potential. I have a pretty goood grasp of English, despite it not
being my first language.
Genres: I'll do anything except sci-fi and horror. Romance is NOT preferrable, but
if I genuinely like your story, I shall beta it. My favorite genres are fantasy and
adventure.
Literacy Level: I'd consider myself rather excellent at English.
Sample:
The damp gravel crunched beneath his winter boots as Renegade Locke trudged home. His bike
was on his left, being dragged along side him. The sky was depressingly gray, a soft
chilly wind blew by, but oddly, he felt free. Most of the autumn leaves had already been
blown away, but an occasional flash of orange dotted the drab landscape. It was a lovely
day for a walk; he realized that the moment he had stepped out of the school campus. He
wasn’t in any rush anyway, and rain appeared that it could hold for a few more hours.
Absentmindedly, he skipped the cracks along the sidewalk, though it was not because of
superstition. To him, it was merely a way to pass the time.
Other: I don't have any.
