C h i p p e d

You’re quite a sight
to behold, darling.
But I’m sure your
face is iced
an inch thick
like a grandma’s cake;
her crinkled hands
busy concealing the dull
surface with sugary sweet

Your shoes are a dazzling 
gold, darling, just as radiant
as your pearly white 
But with further inspection
I notice the clear plastic 
braces secretly straightening 
 out your teeth, drawing 
no attention
to your imperfections.
Or so you think.

Even those bold Gucci 
shoes have their own
faults, darling.
The paint is 
c  h i p p e d, 
exposing the ugly 
natural colour of your 
Just like you.
You’re chipped.

(A poem I wrote with a guy narrator.)
