(Did you people like the last chapter? Well, you're here, so you lived through it
I started, eyes wide, at the child. Ethan lay still on the ground. Very still.
Blood seeped from his back. The boy and I stared at each other for a long moment.
He looked between Ethan and I and dropped his knife. He jumped over Ethan's body and
bolted out into the woods. I watched him fade off through the trees silently. Was it
the smell of blood? Was it Ethan's unnatural stillness? Either way, I knew the human
In a way, I knew that boy had saved me. Sure, it was violent, I saw it all the
time in Hell. But watching it this close, when I wasn't even the same
thing as Ethan... not even a human. I was in shock.
I carefully retied my dress' laces and walked out into the woods looking for
the boy. The barn had cut off my powers. Would the woods do the same?
I walked for what seemed like an eternity. I suddenly stopped. This is where
Vladimir, Jasper and I stayed.
"Jasper? Vladimir?" I called out, uncertainty ringing through my voice.
Jasper poked his head out from behind a tree, a tired look on his face. "Hey,
Flor. Vladimir just came back. He seemed like he was about to bawl; he didn't wanna
talk about it, either."
"Which way did he go?"
I ran off to the left. Why did I even care? Vladimir was an angel. A freaking
angel! Why did I care? Why did I...
"Vladimir!" I grabbed his arm. I felt something warm. Sticky. My eyes widened
and my heart skipped a beat.
"Flor..." Vladimir's eyes were soft and pained. "This... Flor, are... please
tell me nothing happened... That you're alright..."
My heart skipped a beat again. "I'm alright. What were you doing out so late?
Did you see a boy of about twelve come through here? Why are you bleeding?"
Vladimir's face became more pained. "The human... he didn't hurt you, did he?
That barn... I'm surprised... There of all places... It's as if... he knew..."
"What are you talking about?"
"Please, he didn't hurt you, did he?"
"Nothing but a few bumps and bruises... Nothing a demon can't handle. But
"And the knife. Did it get you?"
Another skipped heart beat. "Only... slightly?" I said with suspicion, pointing
between where my chest met my stomach. "Not deep."
"I... I'm so sorry...!" Vladimir's arms were around me instantly. "I didn't
"Vladimir!" I growled. How do you know! What the hell are you sorry for!"
"I... the boy. It was... me. I... You shouldn't have gone. I followed you...
I looked up. "Why would you follow me? I told you I was going to be fine! I--"
"But you weren't fine! That human nearly raped you, Flor-Belle!"
"But he didn't, now did he!" I almost screamed at him. I pushed him back, his
arms tightened. I pushed him back even harder. He fell back, taking me down with
him. He turned over, pinning me to the ground.
"Flor, you don't understand! I've been watching Earth for years. My
brothers still watch it. We have seen too much. I have seen too much like that..."
"All this is just because of your stupid vow to protect the 'pure
princess' isn't it!" I hissed.
Vladimir's eyes widened in hurt. "It's not like that! I wouldn't... You mean
more than that! You're not just a duty anymore, Flor!"
I paused. "What do you mean?" Vladimir and I started at each other for a very
long moment. We both looked away at the same time.
"Listen, you're... something the angels always wanted in existence. Something
I've always wanted." whispered Vladimir, so soft a normal human wouldn't be
able to hear.
We both knew what he was trying to tell me.
Slowly, without a word, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I felt
Vladimir's breath on my neck. "Flor..." He cupped my face in his hands. "I love
you." he whispered.
Then he began to kiss me.
