I've said it before and I'll say it again. When you're at church and a baby starts
fussing or a microphone stops working or the person speaking fumbles with his or her
words, it means PAY ATTENTION. I've seen it over and over that many of the best and
most fruitful sermons I've attended had some or all of these easy distractions.
Here's one segment we went over while a baby was screaming.
Romans 12:1-2 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of
worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's
will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
What is he saying? Do you simply read the words or do you actively think about them
and meditate on their meaning? If someone asked you "What does it mean?" Would you
say "Iunno"? If so, then you truly are deafening yourself to it.
"Therefore" meaning in response to or addition to an earlier statement. "I urge you,
brothers" With urgency, expressing importance to people he is close to in heart, for
family bonds were the most important and the greatest display of closeness was to
call someone brother or sister. "In view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as
living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God" As you have truly felt and understood
the incredible gift of God's mercy, that he has forgiven you of your sins through the
death and resurrection of his son, surely you hunger to live day by day for Him, to
learn and to grow. "this is your spiritual act of worship." There are many ways to
worship, not restricted at all to word or song. "Do not conform any longer to the
pattern of this world" Mankind's natural state is to sin. To be of this world
is to agree with all of the immorality we've come to accept, simply because others
do. "but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Spend time daily in God's
word and as often as you can- ask that He work through and in you to make you new so
that you aren't carrying your old flaws and stains and flawed reasoning. "Then you
will be able to test and approve of what God's will is- his good, pleasing and
perfect will" This statement in itself is worship, for it is affirming who God is and
His perfection. In doing so yielding to His will above your own flawed one. Test
God's word and if you seek the truth you will find it. You will know in your
heart during daily life if what you say or do, or if what others say or do is Godly
or not. If it represents a changed life of love and joyful worship.
This is what it is to read the bible. Not to simply hear the words but to hear their
meaning and to always be applying the meanings to yourself. For if you know God as
you savior, surely you wish to become a more active part in His plan. For he is
purely good and to do his will is to do good.
I want to share God's word, to encourage believers and to do my best to allow others
to truly understand. I'm far from perfect and I make plenty of mistakes, but so long
as I pray that God's will become my own, I will continue to grow.
So. Anyone? Questions, thoughts, comments?
