Lance sauntered over to us. "What's up?" he asked coolly. I shrugged, still holding
the folding table. "Nothin' much." He noticed the wooden table. "Need some help?"
"Sure," I replied evenly. He took the table from my sweaty palms and set it on the
exact, right spot. "Thanks," I stammered. He smiled at me. "No prob." Kayla glared at
"Okay, thanks, now leave!" she commanded. Lance smiled at me. "'Kay. Bye, Mindi," he
waved. "Bye," I said softly. He dissapeared into the house. Kayla shook her head in
disgust, and set her doll collection on the table. Satisfied, I circled the tree for
a spot to start climbing onto. I noticed knotches in the tree that would be perfect
for putting my feet and hands into. I put one of my hands in a knotch and another in
another one of the knotches and heaved myself up. I grabbed the next knotch up and
soon was at the last, top knotch.
"Steady...steady..." I reached for one of the branches, and lost my grip on the
knotch. "Aaaaah!" I screamed, and fell. I landed into strong, warm arms.
"L-Lance?" I murmured. He nodded.
