"Japan PS3 Slim Sales Dominate Wii, Xbox 360
Console redesign and lower price point help Sony move units.
by Jim Reilly

US, September 25, 2009 - Since the beginning of September, the PlayStation 3 has
outsold the Wii nearly 5:1 in Japan, with Sony's console moving 257,254 units
compared to just 52,229 for Nintendo, according to an Ascii Media Works research
survey. Microsoft sold just 17,716 Xbox 360 consoles in Japan during the same
three-week period.

The report highlights a nearly 50% decline in recent Wii console sales. During the
April-June months of this year, the Wii has sold 2.23 million units worldwide, down
from 5.17 million the previous year during the same time period.

The PlayStation 3 Slim console went on sale in Japan on September 3 for 29,980 yen
(330 dollars). Sony announced at the Tokyo Game Show this week the company sold 1
million consoles worldwide since the launch of the redesigned console.

SCEA President Jack Tretton also said earlier this week sales of the PlayStation 3
console sales were up 300% since the price drop announcement.

Tretton noted, however, customers may see a shortage this holiday if sales continue
to surge"
