I learned about honour from, would you believe it, a square-jawed Australian teacher
(teacha?), and not from my samurai master as you might believe.
His notion of honour was more 'western'. He was teaching general studies which no one
showed up for, and certainly not on time, apart from me. His point was this: honour
is being polite to everyone, treating everyone with respect, all of the time, no
matter the circumstances. If you do that, you still have your honour, and no one can
take that away from you. If you do that, you have your self-respect as well as
respect for others. If you do that, you're doing the best you can in the
Naturally, everyone's weak sometimes, and I'm no exception. I've treated people
without respect and politeness.
I intend to conduct myself in this manner throughout any drama that I might not be
able to avoid. And since there's now a profile dedicated to yours truly, I'm
anticipating a fair bit.
