Aiden rolled his eyes, finally understanding how frustrating it must be to talk to
him sometimes. Not that he'd stop. "Salem, just shut up a moment."
"Why? Aiden, it's not going to happen, okay?"
The boy fell silent, drawing lines back and forth on Salem's jeans in front of his
face, "But if it does..." He waited for Salem to interrupt. Nothing. "If it does...
I love you, okay? Even so." He paused again, but still nothing. "I've written a
letter. If it's needed. But... I don't want you to read it. I don't want you to
ever have to open it."
There was silence, but when Salem spoke, his voice was thick, "I won't have to read
it. You're going to be okay."
"If not, though. Just... keep the letter?"
"You know I will."
"And don't bother telling people. They won't care."
"That's a lie."
Aiden shook his head, "No, it's not."
Salem sighed, "You're going to be okay. Please, you have to be."
Aiden pushed himself up, ignoring the headrush that had grown much worse lately, and
hugged his friend, "We'll see, okay?"
"Y-yeah... Guess so..." He hesitated a moment, "I love you."
Aiden pressed his forehead to Salem's shoulder, squeezing his eyes shut, "I love you
