41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If
you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is
hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an
embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will
dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave
one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to
"If I had only known"
The people of Jerusalem who laid palm leaves down and sang songs for Jesus and his
disciples as they came through; five days later those same people called for his
death and spat on him. They were looking for someone to fit their perceptions and
expectations of a savior. If only they had known who it was they were killing.
Unfortunately we today act very similarly with our own perceptions.
My perceptions need to change. Anyone who welcomes God into their heart signs onto
having a life of change. One such change is to stop wondering what God can do and
should do for me, but who he is and what he wants to do in my life.
Let the bitterness go.
And should we lose our step again, then we'll have to get up again also. Please pray
for me, as I am having quite a difficult time with this. I have been told that God
offers an inner peace that the world cannot give, yet I have such great a difficulty
