Happy NewYears and you guessed it, this diary has that theme to it.
Resolution talk is mostly about how we need to be/want to be.
So what DO I need to be?
Ephesians 4:13-14 "13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of
the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of
Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and
blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of
people in their deceitful scheming."
In short, grow and become wise and mature . Know your faith. Know the word and what
it means so that you are anchored in knowledge and wisdom when new waves of thinking
come and go instead of being caught up in each new fad.
Ephesians 5:1 "Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children"
Ephesians 5:15-21 "15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as
wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get
drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19
speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make
music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for
everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ."
There is a lot to think about in those few verses. To make the most of every
opportunity is to share God's love and live a changed life. Let your light shine
before men. Drunkeness is but an example of something clearly given in the word not
to do. Just as a father will tell you not to play with matches out of care and love,
so does our heavenly father ask us not to drink to become drunk. To be filled with
the spirit is to know God's love actively in your heart and to love Him and one
Seek to Be Cautious
To be cautious is not the same as to be fearful or complacent. As it is written, we
are not given a spirit of timidity, but of power and love. To be cautious is to pray
and ask God for guidance before acting, and to seek His will above our own. I want
what God wants because He knows what will bring me the most joy.
Seek to Be Wise
Knowledge is not wisdom. We all know of plenty of people who know a lot of
information but do not know how to apply it or even what it may mean. Wisdom comes
from Christ. No, I am not saying that only Christians can be wise nor that all
Christians are(heeeck no). But wisdom itself is directly from God alone. It is
Seek to Be Ready
As it is said above, make the most of your opportunities. God wants us to reach out
and share His gifts with our sphere of influence. Friends, family, coworkers, even
strangers. This area has a lot of gray spots. I guess the best advice I can give at
this time is to have the prayer in your heart "God please use me as you see fit, I
know that you can use this imperfect tool perfectly and as you see best."
Seek to Be Filled
Don't unknowingly give your life over to things and people. I just realized today
that I have been giving attention to my gameboy that was previously attention given
to God. Yes I can play my gameboy, but I need to be more aware of God's time and
that it is more important than gameboy time. It happened without me knowing, as most
of these things do. Now that I recognize it, I can make corrections.
Seek to Be Thankful
Be thankful in all situations, both prosperous and rotten. Because God has a plan
for you, and he can use any piece of rotten luck and make something good come of it.
He is always with you. No I don't expect you to say "PRAISE GOD THAT MY WIFE
DIVORCED ME!" Although some people may in fact say that. Okay, bad example but you
know what I mean XD. Yes its hard or even near impossible to thank God for bad
things that happen to us. But we can be thankful that God. Is. With. Us. I can be
like Jonah and the whale(or large fish, what have you). I can be in the stomach of a
beast at the bottom of the dark ocean and God is still with me. I am probably going
to die, and God is right there with me.
Seek to Be Submissive
Be submissive in LOVE of one another and most importantly love of God. If you are
submitting to someone who neither loves you nor God then I doubt it goes well and you
probably need to do something. But when the person you submit to (no, not so extreme
as a slave, if there is a question here let me know and I'll expand) loves you and
loves God then it is a wonderful thing because they want and strive for what is best
for you. Value one another as God does.
Seek to Be Faithful
What I want is at the end of 2011 for God to say "Well done, faithful servant". I am
a servant by choice, by joyful choice. I am humble, as God in all of his power and
splendor is humble. I do my best to love as God loves, and it has become natural. I
am a work in progress.
My pastor told us a story. He was on the freeway behind a van. On the back of the
large van was written "Always Faithful" and Bill thought "That's just so nice." He
pulled up alongside the van and it was written in big letters. "Always faithful,
every Sunday, go 49ers" and he died a little inside. Its true that many people who
call themselves Christian know more about a sports team or even a single sports
member than the bible. Sports are just my example, there are plenty of other things
I could point to. How important is God in our lives?
We don't know what the future holds, and frankly learn to be glad you don't know. We
are to be hopeful of the future, not fearful. Many people look to the new year with
fear and dread rather than hope. Live today, let tomorrow take care of itself. God
is with you and you are with Him. No matter what he'll get you through and you'll
I wrote "Seek to" stead of "Be this and that" because it isn't as simple as flipping
a switch to become faithful. It is a journey that only ends because we die. We make
progress and get closer and become wiser until the end.
