**ONE WEEK LATER**
"i can't believe you're moving!" mallory said. any minute she would start crying, i
knew. i was already crying. i didn't want to leave my friends, they meant the world
to me. matt hadn't said anything for half an hour. he just sat there. normally he
talks a million miles an hour, so i knew he was sad too. i wished kayla was here with
us, but she hadn't been able to convince her parents to let her come home from
vacation to say goodbye.
"alright just about 5 more minutes, and we're going to head out." my mom said as she
peeked her head into my door. my room looked so weird with no furniture in it.
mallory started crying, and i crawled over to her and gave her a hug. "i'm going to
miss you so much. i promise i'll come back as soon as possible." she didn't stop
crying, but she seemed a little calmer. "you promise?" she asked. "of course. i
guarantee, san antonio is going to be awful." the three of us sat there until my mom
came back into my room. "olivia, i want you in the car in one minute, understand?
otherwise we're going to hit terrible traffic in austin." reluctantly, i stood up,
and so did mal and matt. we walked out to our suburban. i got out my cell phone and
called kayla. i put her on speaker phone.
"kay? it's me."
"olivia! are mal and matt there too?"
"yeah, we're here." answered mallory. there was silence for a moment.
"olivia, i'm going to miss you. promise to call or text or email or IM or-"
"okay, kayla. i promise to keep in touch." i kind of smiled because she sounded so
goofy. this was not like kayla behavior at all.
"OLIVIA. IN THE CAR. NOW." my mom yelled.
"kayla? i've got to go. i'll call when i get there."
"alright. bye i guess."
i hung up the phone and looked up at my two other friends. mal was still crying. i
hugged her again, and then i hugged matt. i thought i saw a tear in his eye.
"you gonna be okay matt? you gotta take care of your sister for me." he smiled, a
half-smile and just said "i'll miss you." then he reached into his pocket and handed
me a card. "here. it's from me and mal. read it in the car."
we had another group hug and then i climbed into the suburban. i waved out the window
as we drove off.
my journey had just begun.
TO BE CONTINUED.
