Mana stared at the new beauty that surrounded her. The whole idea of being
in a different world disturbed her slightly, but in a way, she could?ve been
expecting it. She could only wonder what awaited her in this world.
Kiri looked like she was still shocked from the whole thing. She kept rubbing her
eyes and telling herself it was a crazy dream. But it wasn't a dream. It was real.
And Mana was loving every second of it. Kiri repeated her thoughts one time too much.
Kiyomi went to her and nearly screamed.
"It not dream! It real!!"
Kiri stood wide-eyed at Kiyomi, shocked. Kiyomi backed up, surprised at what she
"I sorry. Don't know what wrong with me."
"It's ok. You were right."
Mana smiled at the two, glad that Kiri was finally getting along with someone else
Only a few feet away, Naono was going over what he recorded with the tape recorder.
He thought of all the things that the boy could be. He finally decided the boy knew
magic. As crazy as it sounded, he actually thought he knew real magic.
He decided to stay by the magician and his friends. How would he contact the
orphanage now? Oh heck, who needed them? It was a new world for him to explore. He
was just as curious as the group were about the strange world. They would have to
wait and see what happened.
The group traveled for the remainder of the day through the forest. When it came
dusk, and twilight covered the place, the group decided to settle for the night. As
Mana took her pack off, she could hear what sounded like an owl sing like a warbler.
"This is a very strange place." Sera said.
"It's not strange. It's just different. I thought your forests were strange when I
appeared in your world four years ago."
"I like these forests much more then ours." Mana commented.
"I agree." Eichiro smiled at her. She felt blood rush to her cheeks.
"What lives in these forests?" Shiki asked.
"Lots of creatures. Most of them don?t exist in your world. The majority of creatures
are Sprites. They kept the forest alive by singing to it. But something must have
happened since I left. There are not as nearly as many singing as there were four
years ago. They used to sing all the time, now I haven't heard one yet."
Just then, a single female voice filled the air.
"I spoke too soon. There is one now. They don't sing by themselves though."
Another voice echoed from the opposite side. Then one in front. Soon, Mana must have
heard voices from at least ten different places. Eichiro smiled.
"They used to gather in groups of about 100, but now they seem to be groups of ten. I
wonder what happened?"
Two of the voices overlapped. Eichiro seemed to notice it.
"Hmm? They don?t overlap their voices unless they decide to start a song. Few people
have heard a sprite song. Now it must be very uncommon."
"Do you think they?ll sing to us?" Mana asked eagerly.
The voices continued to mend into each other until they started singing in unison.
Their voices had turned into a tune. The sprites crawled out of their hiding places
and revealed themselves to the group. All of them had green hair and a fancy green
tunic. They were all female. They also were very small. Not one was taller then
The song they sung was in a different language. Which she assumed was their own. The
song the sprites sung was uncanny, yet beautiful. They almost had her in a trance.
She wondered if her companions felt that way. Suddenly, she felt a surge of pain flow
through her. She cried out, alarming her companions. Black covered her vision, and
she passed out, the last thing she heard was her friends scurrying to help her.
Mana felt her body still surging with pain when she woke up. She had no idea how long
she was out cold. She saw Eichiro had been watching over her. He saw Mana was awake
and smiled. He also seemed relieved. He went to her and helped her in a sitting
"Thank goodness you're awake! What happened?"
"I don't know what happened. I felt pain everywhere, and I passed out."
"Well, it's a good thing you're ok."
"I still hurt all over, though."
"Just rest for a while. I'm here if you need help."
Mana noticed her companions were sleeping. Eichiro must have stayed awake to keep
watch of her.
"This has never happened before. Why would the sprites hurt you?" Eichiro pondered.
"Mana, I'm really worried."
"Don't worry. I'm fine now."
Eichiro tried to smile, but it seemed difficult for him to trust her words. Mana?s
pain had subsided and now she felt really tired. She laid down again.
"Eichiro, I'm just tired. How long was I out?"
"About an hour."
"I suppose you're tired too?"
"Not really, but I need the sleep. G'night Mana."
When Mana woke up, all her companions were still asleep. She laid against her pack,
enjoying the peace. You can imagine her surprise when she heard a squeal come from
her pack! She scrambled away from it, at first thinking that the other world had done
something to her pack, but then a Sprite crawled out. This sprite had unusual pink
hair put in a ponytail, and a simple green tunic. On her arm was a simple bracelet.
She was not like the other Sprites that sung the last night. She seemed like an
outcast. But still, she couldn't understand the sprite language. The sprite
"I never realized that humans were so heavy!"
Mana realized that this one had spoken English.
"You can speak my language?"
"What do you mean?"
"This was the language I was taught. You mean those no-good sisters of mine didn't
teach me our own language?" Her tiny hands went into fists.
"What is your name?"
"I'm Spirit! And who are you?"
"My name's Mana."
"What is it?"
"I..uh...thought I saw something behind you."
"Spirit, what did your sisters do to me last night? It seems like they tried to kill
"Look on your arm and find out!"
Her arm? Mana hesitated, but rolled up her sleeve. There was a pink crest covering
her lower right arm. She yelped and covered her arm with the sleeve.
"What did they do to me?"
"Hey! Hey! Take it easy! It's good! My sisters know who you are, and they blessed
you!" Spirit beamed. They knew who she was? Was this something else referring to the
chosenplayer nickname? She heard something coming from her friends. Eichiro was
waking up! Spirit shrieked and hid in Mana's pack again. She made it just in time.
"Good morning Mana. Did you sleep well?"
Mana nodded, not trusting herself to speak.
"Is everything alright?"
Eichiro stared at mana warily, but went to rouse the others. Spirit poked her head
out of her pack.
"I want to go with you, but that boy in black wouldn't let me."
"How can you be sure?"
"I?m sure, ok??" Spirit growled, and then went into her pack. By now, everyone was
awake. He was telling them that the closest village was to the west, and since they
were running out of supplies, and they would be heading there. Everyone grabbed their
things, trusting his knowledge of this new world. Mana slung her pack over her
shoulders and rolled up her sleeve again to see the crest. It was very detailed.
This is suppost to be a blessing? Mana wondered. Ato looked back.
"C'mon, Mana! You don't want to get left behind!"
Mana rolled her sleeve down and ran to catch up with the group. She had no Idea what
this blessing, or curse, would do to her, but she could only hope it was good. She
hid it from the others, just in case it was bad. She also wanted to keep Spirit a
secret. She would be a nice companion to go with, and she didn't want Eichiro to find
her. For now, all she needed was luck.
A/n:this chapter took a long time for me to get started. Shoot me.
