As I was running back through the creepy forest and into the town again, I was
bursting for the loo. I burst into my house and into the bathroom. Walking out of the
bathroom, I saw a sudden glint of silver. I looked back, but I couldn't see anything.
I bent down looking under the dusty sink but there was nothing there. Mum was calling
me because our pizza was ready. We sat down in front of our favourite TV programme,
Dancing On Ice, and ate our dinner.
"Where did you go tonight?" asked Mum, putting her knife and fork on her plate and
swallowing her last mouthful of pizza. "I never saw you come into the corner shop."
"Oh, I just got...got a bit lost," I said, nodding vigorously.
"Okay, but where?"
"In the town but I err....found a map."
"A map? They have maps in America?"
"Yeah..." My voice trailed off as someone slipped on the TV and crashing down onto
the hard ice rink. "Mum, look!" The two contestants were laying on the ice, not
moving. But everyone in the audience was...cheering! Suddenly, a huge creature came
in front of the camera and said, "I'll get you Gemini. Or bad, bad things will
happen." I shook myself, and stared at the screen. The creature was gone. The couple
weren't on the ice anymore. They were carrying on with their routine.
"Mum, did you just see that?" I asked, shivering.
"See what? That fantastic spin?" she replied, pointing at the couple who were now
doing a perfect twist.
"No, them slipping over."
"What? They didn't slip over, sweetie. They are doing wonderfully."
"Yes, really. Now, darling, have you got a fever or anything? Maybe you're just tired
from all the excitement today. Maybe you'd better go to bed now."
"Maybe I should..."
I was terrified of the curse that old lady had said. As I laid in bed, I couldn't
sleep. School wasn't for another week. How could I survive in this house, knowing
there was a skull somewhere, and if I found it, I have to leave forever?
I trembled and turned over. Outside a streetlight flashed. The rain poured down.
Thunder crashed. Hail crashed against the window panes.
And I swear I heard something moving behind the curtain...
