"Mom?" Ryder calls as we enter the large victorian-style house. I, of course, had to
comment on how beautiful it is. Ryder and Jesse had just laughed and led me on in.
"Finally you two got back. I was just fixin' to call you and see what was taking
so long." A short, dark-haired woman who looks to be in her late 30's or early 40's
says as she hurries over to us.
"We couldn't find her when we got there." Ryder explains, flopping down on the
couch beside Jesse.
"That's fine, sweetie." She says and then turns to me. "It's good to finally meet
you, Casey. Your mom has told me so much about you." She says as she pulls me into a
friendly hug. I smile politely and hug her back.
"Ryder dear, can you show Casey to her room? I've got to get the roast out of the
oven." She explains as she turns and goes back down the hall to what must be the
kitchen. Ryder stands back up and walks back over to me, picking up my suitcases
before leading me across the living room to the stairs. Ryder starts up the stairs
and I follow, not being able to keep my eyes off his jean-clad butt. He stops when we
reach the top and I barely stop myself from walking into him.
"This is Jesse's room, my room, Hannah's room, and the bathroom." He informs me,
pointing to each door in turn. "And this," He says as he opens the door across from
his room, "is your room." He finishes as he enters the room and lays my suitcases
down on the queen size bed. The room itself is just a plain room; white walls, white
ceiling, and grey carpet. The view from my window is what captures my attention. A
small creek, a barn, and a couple pastures etch the plain landscape. I walk over to
the window in a type of trance and just stand there.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Ryder says softly and I turn around quickly in surprise,
only to run smack into him. His rock hard chest knocks me off balance and I grab his
shoulders to steady myself. He grabs me by the waist and steadies me, smiling warmly
down at me. His smile is a huge contrast to his usual smirk and it leaves me
"Yeah, it is." I reply, barely managing the words. He stares down at me, eyes full
of amusement. I stare back, unable to do anything else.
"Guys, dinner's-" A brunette that looks around my age starts, but stops when she
sees us. "Am I. . .interrupting anything?" She asks instead, eyeing Ryder's hands
that are still on my waist misheviously. Ryder let's go of me instantly and steps
away, the amusement completely gone from his gaze.
"No, Hannah. Nothing at all. C'mon, Casey, don't wanna keep everyone waiting."
Ryder says calmly, walking past Hannah and out into the hall. I take a deep breath
and then follow him, Hannah right behind me.
