She awoke. Dazed and confused, she searched the pitch blackness, groping, searching
for anything to help! But nothing. A blanket of darkness hung over her head, and
there was no light, no breeze, and no water to offer any sign of aid. It was like an
elemental darkness, a cloud that would never lift its icy cover from over her head.
And the girl shivered, to think that she was in such a situation. A glowing whitish
gem was suspended in the sky, as if by invisible threads. The girl sighed , and
closed her eyes, imagining that she could float away, clinging to the threads of the
moon, like a featherless bird.
Of course, the girl had a name. Her parents had thought that the name
“Kyrae” would do, for someone with wispy ginger hair, such as herself. But Violet
had never approved of it. “Kyrae, I ask you?!” Violet would mutter, while taking
the laundry to the palace keep. It didn’t bother Kyrae, as she was known to her
close friends as “Kaz”, and so long as she had faithful Tinks by her side, she
would be living a perfect life.
And here was Kaz, princess of Miriae, middle child of King Leros and Queen
Dimante, lying in a pit in the middle of nowhere. The worst part was, she had not a
clue how she had got there! Kaz thought of Violet pouring the cat food into Tinks’
doggy bowl, and for a moment, smiled to herself. She might have been sitting by the
fire in the palaces living room, being served buttered toast and having Tomar run
pointless errands. At this a tear came to Kaz’s eye. She really kinda missed having
her little brothers airs, annoyances and tantrums to make her laugh. She would never
have said that to Tomars face, but anyway...
Just as Kaz was wondering about her big brother Perris and his schoolwork, The
other person stepped forward from the gloom. Their shadow looked sinister and eerie
in the twilight, and as the other person got closer, Kaz realised what was so
The other person had raised an axe...
