As I was walking to class for our first period, I noticed a picture that looked
similiar to this:
- wedged at the top of a windowsill. I pointed it out to my friends Anneliese and
Caleb, and we had a laugh about how random it was before going straight into class.
The two first periods of the day passed pretty well. Then, as I was walking out to
recess, I saw the picture of the emu again. I laughed nervously about it to Caleb and
Anneliese and we concluded it was a funny coincidence.
Well, it was until I found it again after going to my bag after third period and it
was there, posted above my bag and at my eye level. I tore it off and looked around
to see if anyone was guilty but the class was only starting to come out. Caleb saw me
with the emu picture again and Anneliese, Caleb and I made a humorous scenerio about
it. It went something like:
Me: AGH, IT'S THE EMU!
Anneliese:: Okay, now that's just weird.
Caleb: It's coming for you Ella...
Me:Ah! Don't say it like that!
Caleb: It's a truth you have to face. You can't run forever.
Me:: You're jinxing me! If I don't come to school tomorrow, you'll know why.
Anneliese:: Yeah, it'll be on the headlines: 'Asian Teenage Girl Mysteriously
Murdered By An Emu.
Caleb: Or we'll just randomly see Ella one day running around the school
screaming hysterically with this rabid emu chasing, trying to eat her.
Freaked out by their scenarios, I threw the picture away and went to the grass area
for the last period of the day, which was a free period (our awesome English teacher
couldn't be bothered giving us work). For most of that period, I played old-school
games on my DS right until the end of the day. I had forgotten completely about the
emu picture and emus in general. So when Caleb approached me, I thought nothing
strange. I asked him to return a wire for me and he laughed, said no, and threw my
hat away. I chased after it, yelling at him the whole time. When I got back to my
bag, Caleb and the wire was gone but there was a folded piece of paper on bag.
I assumed it was rubbish so I opened it.
And I screamed.
He had left me the emu picture.
I chased after him, yelling all the while. When I caught up to to him, he denied
everything and told me that the emu must have followed me. I threw the piece of paper
at him and stomped off in a huff. I stood brooding by the school gates, waiting to
tell my little sister everything. I saw her approaching and I was about to tell her
when she held out a folded piece of paper to me and said:
"Caleb told me to give this to you."
I didn't even open it. I promptly fell to my knees and cursed Caleb while waving my
fist at the sky.
