So having lived in Quebec for all seventeen years of my life I decided to make a
decision on what I think of it and how it is as a province in general. So let's get
Here in Quebec we have a 14.975% tax so let's just say 15%. I find this to be a crazy
amount compared to other provinces such as Alberta which has 5% (then again they have
oil so they're better) and even with our high taxes we still can't get anything right
the money seems to go nowhere.
Health Care System
So in Quebec as with the rest of Canada we have free health care, at first this seems
like a good thing right. On paper it looks nice in reality it's horrible. First off
there are not enough doctors for all the people living here so even though it's free
some people don't have doctors. The hospitals are also horrible and have unrealistic
waiting times and I have two examples.
My little sister recently had some accident she had a concussion and was bleeding
steadily from her ear we went to the emergency room and it took four and a half ours
to get to see someone(which I find ridiculous cause this while time she was
My grand-mother had recently gotten breast cancer and the waiting line to be treated
was about a year and a half to two years (luckily we brought her to a private clinic
and she is now cured though it costed money :0)
There are also not enough doctors or nurses and they are forced to work like 22 hour
days also the hallways are just filled with people on makeshift beds since there are
not enough rooms.
The Roads and Infastructure
The roads here in Quebec are absolutely horrible, it seems as though there was
roadside bombings or something. Even with our insanely high tax we can't have good
roads and they are just full of potholes. Some argue that it's because of our weather
but that's a lie cause in northern New York they have the same weather as us and it's
smooth sailing all down their roads. Another problem are the bridges they are so
badly made and are falling apart. For example the Champlain Bridge built 20 years ago
already needs to be replaced while the Victoria bridge built 200 years ago is still
in perfect condition. Another example is our overpasses a couple years back one of
them just collapsed cause they are so badly built and it killed eight people. It also
doesn't help that the construction business is super corrupt here.
The Indian Reserves
So the Indian people ahem sorry Natives live in special reserves and because of this
they don't have to pay for tax of electricity. They are also allowed to make and sell
their own cigaretts for a fraction of the price of say Rothmans brand of cigarettes.
Their cigs have been found to contain traces of animal feces and mercury and paint
and whatever else they could get their hands on. They aren't just sold in Quebec
either they are smuggled into other provinces and many US states. Also since the
Mercier bridge is on their territory they are the only ones who are allowed to
preform repairs even if they don't have a construction license.
The Education Fees
In Quebec we have the lowest education fees in all of Canada at $2,890 a year of
university the government wants to increase this to $4,700 a year which would still
be the lowest in all of Canada to put it into perspective let's say your studying
medicine in Quebec right now it costs $1,968 per year and in California for the same
education it would cost $26,000 a year. Now this increase has made student very angry
and they have taken to the streets and they are now on their hundredth something day
of strike and manifestations. Because of this they had to cancel the semester just
because it would cost a bit more. To make it worse the students have a plan that
would make schooling be free and what would that do make our taxes be at 20% 25%? The
students have also chosen that their symbol be a red square (I don't know about you
guys but red means communism) to make things worse they wave Che flags alongside the
Quebec flag at protests and riots.
The Political Parties
Every political part in Quebec is left side there is not right hand branch and all
but one want to seperate from the rest of Canada (which is why I support them
seperating would just be idiotic)
The party in power right now has a plan to rebound the economy with “Le Plan
Nord” basically want they want to do is harvest our natural resources in the north
of Quebec. People are complaint because this will just be making companies money and
not the government. Which I think is idiotic like what do you want the government to
be in control of all that money cause that would make us a communist country not just
All of the electricity in Quebec is from hydroelectricity and there is only one
option of where to get it from Hydro-Quebec which is a government owned installation.
So everyone has to pay that one fixed price but why if we can choose our cell phone
and internet providers why not be able to choose our electricity providrers.
So looking at this it makes me wonder are we slowly becoming communist and do I want
to live in such a place don't get me wrong Quebec is a nice place with a rich culture
(we have some pretty funny comedians if you understand french check out Mike Ward
he's hilarious) we also have really nice people you could say hi to anyone on the
street and they will say hi back.
So all in all that was my rant on my province Quebec stay tinned for next time when I
rant about Canada in general.
