I'm writing a fantasy story- still- but my setting includes three seperate (non
existant) countries, and I'm having trouble describing the ethnicities.

So here's the thing. As a caucasian, I am having trouble describing caucasian skin
tone. What's something that's the same color as we are?

Can you guys come up with similies, or other ways to describe so called "white
people", because white doesn't actually fit.

Ordinarily skin color doesn't require much thought, but since my main characters are
supposed to be from a place where everyone is darker than the people I'm

So back on topic-

How can I explain caucasian skin color?
Comparisons to objects welcome, please leave in comments!

inside of an apple
light sandy color
{or more offensively, like a scar that's just about to heal? scar
tissue looks an awful lot like caucasian skin color xD)

As Dark As A Gray Feather But As Light As A White Feather, Meshed
Together It Becomes A Darkish Gray But Not Quite Black.

Medium Color Considering How Dark The Africans Were And How White The
Eurpeans Were? Ahhh My Brain...

Sorry Really Stupid Of How To Explain Something T_T I Never Really Was
One For Description o.O

I probably should have mentioned that offensive is sort of good for my
purposes... My protaganist doesn't really trust foriegners.

Ah hah, nice Meaghan. Unfortunately, Europe and Africa don't exist in
my story, so I can't use them as reference.

"Not quite the colour of the stains on (male character)'s sheets, but
not quite the color of wet sand, either."

Ah, nothing quite like a literary masturbation reference.

How white are these white people?
Should we be thinking about gingers? Or just normal people? Or what?

Pooy XD I Suck At Refernces Sorry!

What about white as Ivory?
‹TonTon› says:   19 September 2010   388775
as white as dirty snow?
pigeon down?
the ground in winter?
the glare of the sun?
fangs of a wild animal?
the inside of a tree?
lunasan says:   19 September 2010   358945
Those are good ones Tonton >.>
‹TonTon› says:   19 September 2010   693821
just whatever I could think of...
tiggerlemon101 says:   20 September 2010   152582
That's genius.

Umm, I like that fangs of a wild animal one.
You have a lot of similes, so what about just a description? In
general caucasians tend to be almost the colour of cream (aha, yes, I
realize that is an object. I fail.), but slightly more pink or yellow
depending on their complexion.
Kirti says:   20 September 2010   227602
Objects are fine! Especially if they're something easy to picture.
Damn, you guys are a lot better at this then I am . The only
problem is that ivory and teeth and cream -along with all the far less
creative things I came up with- are a lot paler then anyones actual
skin. Things like feathers and sand might be hard for readers to
visualize, especially since those things are different colors
depending on where you live, but since I stupidly only made three
countries comparing these people to other people won't work either.
(In this case. In general it's a pretty fracking clever work around,
come to think of it.)

If any of you can ignore how fussy this comment was, please try to
think of more at your leisure. (Please? Pretty please which cherries
and suchwhich??)

old paper?
drift wood, maybe?
acorn meat? (if you even have acorns)
lunasan says:   20 September 2010   531058
Mmm... Acorn meat...
That's a good one, actually. "the breast of the bird which was twice
roasted over the fire."
‹Panda  Bear› says:   21 September 2010   751319
What about white as bread crumbs?!
tiggerlemon101 says:   22 September 2010   390715
Legit, my skin is the same colour as animal teeth. :P
I doubt you can really use this one, but I just wanted to offer it for
the satisfaction of having thought of something...

Slightly-lighter-than-average-but-still-identifiable peach yogurt. :D
Kirti says:   23 September 2010   290737
I keep comparing all this stuff to my own legs, since even the Irish
people in my school can't match them for paleness, but most of these
suggestions would look unhuman... Animal teeth just worry me because
they're quite yellow. Whatever I end up with has to be something that
everyone can read and immediatly think "Oh! I get it, white people."
But they aren't supposed to be literally white, they aren't made of
milk or anything... Just normal caucasian skin color.
‹TonTon› says:   23 September 2010   236502
maybe just Caucasian?
lunasan says:   23 September 2010   852774
over aged swiss cheese?
‹TonTon› says:   23 September 2010   387458
Kirti says:   25 September 2010   820422
Caucasian wouldn't really fit the language of the story, so I'm
hesitant to use it.
orangecherrysoda says:   25 September 2010   707726
Um, uh.... the inside of an almond? *smacked*
Maybe not...
lunasan says :   25 September 2010   984054
Actually that's a good colour... because it can be a little darker,
"Juhjua looked like he had bathed in dye the colour of almond meat,
whereas I was head to foot the almond skin without any dying needed.
How peculiar."
