You walk to the Homestead with friends every time you stay after school, even when
it's under 20 degrees outside. Today, after getting halfway out of the parking lot,
you realize that one of your friends has a car. His car has heat. It's probably 18
degrees, not counting the wind chill. You drive probably less than half a mile to get
there, and have to walk back to school because he has go give his friends a ride
home. This is because people will do ANYTHING to avoid taking the late bus. Anything.
After that, you sit in that little square space between the outside door and the door
to get into the building, where it's not heated but warmer than outside, for about 45
minutes with Derek throwing candy at anyone who walks by, and telling them to close
the door because you're cold. Once you arrive home, it still takes over 10 minutes in
the shower before you can fully feel all of your limbs. You proceed to walk around in
a t-shirt and complain about being cold. Your solution is to continue wearing the
t-shirt, but put on a hat.
