It's Wednesday morning, my alarm clock is blaring, and mom's yelling from the
"Trent, Get Up! Breakfast is Ready."
I shut off my alarm clock and replied.
"I'll be down in a minute Mom!"
i got out of bed and walked to the mirror.
My lanky body and short brown hair made my appearance look dull and unappealing.
I put on a Tshirt and a pair of jeans and ran downstairs for breakfast.
I grabbed a piece of toast and ran out the door. i was for sure going to be late for
i worked at the local 50's themed diner. I was ten minutes late to work, thank
goodness it was just me and GiGi today, she'd never rat me out for being late. she
was taking an order while I ran to put my uniform on. Three hours later, near the end
of my shift, GiGi came up to the counter.
"Hey there Shug..." she said.
"Hey GiGi..." I replied
Something wrong..." she asked "You look kind of, i don't know...upset."
"No" I said unconvincingly.
"still having those dreams?" she asked.
"Yea, it's strange. I keep seeing this girl but I can't see her face. And... I don't
even like any girls."
Then a frequent customer and good friend of GiGi's, Lauren, walked by and whispered
something in GiGi's ear. It sounded like she had said
"i wish I was that girl..." and then I began to wipe the counter. GiGi turned to me
turned to me and had said
"You'd best get going Shug, you're gonna be late for school."
it's just school..." i said.
"C'mon now!..." she said. "It's not that bad!"
"High School is so stupid"
"The 'stupid thing' we call high school, gets us ready for the 'awesome thing' called
"alright you got me!" I said. There was no such thing as winning a fight against
GiGi. that southern accent of hers always calms me down.
GiGi is a very subtle and convincing person. I got out of my uniform and grabbed my
bag as i headed for the door.
The five minute drive from the diner to the school seemed to fly by. I pulled
into the lot and found a spot, stopped the engine, climbed out of the car, and darted
for the door in the pouring rain.
i rang the front bell and the office ladies unlocked the door.
i grabbed the hand;e and prepared myself for my teenage doom.
I walked inside and signed myself in at the front office.
It was time for gym.
Today's game was dodgeball.
"i keep thinking something is wrong..." i told my best friend, Jude.
"i know the feeling dude..."
"sure...I got that feeling and my parents wouldn't tell me my hamster died."
"no dude, it's different, way different..."
"i don't know dude..."
"me either, anyway, i'll see you tomorrow."
Little did I know that next time would be the last time I ever saw him.
