“So Caroline is all dried out.” I joked, lifting the empty baggy. “Looks like
you're gonna have to say goodbye now, Dan.”
“I'll say goodbye when I say it's time to say goodbye.”
“Okay well, it's all gone so you don't really have a choice now.” I laughed
along with Nat.
“I said, I'll say goodbye when I say so.” Suddenly the loose feeling in the
room tightened.
“You said you'd quit after this bag. The bags empty now quit.” I stood up.
“Since when do I have to abide to your rules?” He stood up close in front of me.
“Last time I checked, this is my house.”
“Dude, relax she just wants what's best for you.” Nat said standing up from the
chair behind Dan.
“Why are you talking? Dan turned to Nat. “Did anyone say your name?”
“I'm just trying to help, man.”
	“I don't need help.” Dan's voice raised.
“Stop getting mad, no one's trying to hurt you.” I pitched in.
Dan turned back to me with anger in his eyes. “Why-” He pulled on his hair and
tilted his head back in pain before dropping his head back down to look at me. “Why
are you defending him?”
“I'm not defending anyone, I'm just-” That's when he pushed me back against the
wall with his hand gripping my bruised wrist. He held it over my head and put his
other hand on my neck.
“Don't make me ask again. Why are you defending him?”
“Hey, let her go.” Nat said, stepping closer.”
“Get the fuck back.” Dan said turning his head to look at Nat and then turned it
back to me. “You two have been getting awfully close.” He lightly stroked my
neck. “I think you're forgetting who your boyfriend is.” He started to grip my
neck. “You know, the one who saved you?” He gripped tighter. “Housed you.” He
gripped even tighter.
“Dan, let her go.” Nat said, pulling Dan off me. Dan punched him in the face
without hesitation.
“Stay away from her.” He yelled.
“What the fuck, Dan? Why do you always have to get like this?” Nat said covering
his injured eye.
	“Go home.” Dan ordered.
“Why? So I can leave her alone and there's no witnesses when you kill her?”
I was shaking with fear hoping Dan would calm down or Nat would find a way to get me
out of here. But leaving with Nat would probably only end in double homicide and
maybe suicide.
Dan laughed at him. “Who said anything about killing her? I'd never-” He looked
at me and walked towards me. “I'd never kill you.”
I stared at him with fear in my eyes. “Why don't you take a look at what you did
so far and calm down.”
“Sorry I uh, get a little over protective.”
	“That's your fucking excuse?”
“I can't lose someone else. You're already in too deep.”
	“What's that suppose to mean?”
“Just relax, Stella. He'll calm down. This isn't abnormal for Dan. For many
reasons.” Nat said, recovering from the pain.
“So you're excusing him after that bullshit excuse he gave?”
“It isn't bullshit.” Dan yelled in my face. Then he calmed down immediately.
“Nat, go home. I need to talk to Stella.”
