"Try to stand up a little straighter, Darling. But don't overstretch, yes, like
The little girl did as her mother said, smiling, "Shall I try again, Mummy?"
Kari nodded, "Do you want to try again with the CD, or on your own?"
"Uhmm...." Alice chewed her lip (a habit she had inherited from her mother, despite
attempts to make her stop), "With the CD. It sounds prettier then!"
"You sound pretty either way. Are you ready? Remember there's four bars of
introduction. Remember what that means?"
"Yep! I've got to count to four four times!" Alice laughed, holding up four fingers
before resuming the position her mother had taught her.
"Okay... Go..." Kari pressed play, and the piano (which had to make do while her
husband was working) started playing. She sat down next to the CD player, mother and
daughter's bright green eyes meeting as Kari nodded for Alice to start.
"Think of me,
Think of me fondly,
When we've said goodbye!
Every so often,
Promise me you'll try!"
Alice span around with one of Kari's scarves, trying her hardest to mimic what she'd
seen Kari do on the DVD she'd watched to death, and her mother grinned to herself,
catching a movement from the corner of her eye, looking over quickly. She knew it
wasn't him, but it still made her cautious, even now. She let out a sigh of relief
and subtle made a 'wait' sign with her hand.
"But please promise me that sometimes,
You will think...
Val ran up behind her, scooping his daughter into his arms and spinning her around,
"Brava! Bravissima!" He chuckled, setting her back down after a few more spins,
"You're really getting good at that song, hm? As good as Mummy!"
"Better than Mummy!" Kari corrected, smoothing Alice's blonde curls down where they
had messed up during the spinning. She smiled up at Val, resting her head on his
shoulder, which was still the perfect height, and entwined her hand with his, "What
do you want to do now, Alice? We'll sing more later if you want."
"Can we play pwincesses and fairytales please?"
