Why does it seem that the wicked prosper? Its like the worse a person is the more
they get. The drunk driver walks away from the crash that killed three. Seriously?
The rapist gets away with a slap on the wrist due to a technicality. Seriously? The
douche speeding in front of you is ignored by the cop. Seriously? Its so
frustrating! I'm sure you can fill in a few injustices of your own.

(Psalms 73: 1-3)
 1 Surely God is good to Israel,
   to those who are pure in heart.
 2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;
   I had nearly lost my foothold.
3 For I envied the arrogant
   when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Now at this point I want to give you a part from Matthew 5.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. 44
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you
may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and
the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those
who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not
even pagans do that?

The bottom line is that God is good. I mean God IS good. We are to love and value
as God does. Its hard. It downright sucks sometimes to look at the jerk who has
everything and love them and value them as God does. Will life seem unfair? YES!
Will life be unfair?  YES!

The real root question we've all thought about is does it pay to serve God?
What if we serve alone? What about when no one is watching? Look at so-and-so's
life! They've got everything and they aren't a Godly person at all! What is my
motivation to obey God if those who do not are so blessed?

We are to know God's promises. We are foreigners on Earth, we are not of this land

(Psalm 73:4-5 and 12)
 4 They have no struggles;
   their bodies are healthy and strong.
5 They are free from common human burdens;
   they are not plagued by human ills.
12 This is what the wicked are like—
   always free of care, they go on amassing wealth.

We see the outside of the cup don't we? We see how these people appear, how they act
in our sight. We compare what we know about ourselves with what we don't know
about others.

(Psalms 73:6 and 9)
6 Therefore pride is their necklace;
   they clothe themselves with violence.
9 Their mouths lay claim to heaven,
   and their tongues take possession of the earth.

What set off the writer of this passage the most was the arrogance and pride of these
people. That they weren't struck with misfortune and humbled.

(Psalms 73:10)
10 Therefore their people turn to them
   and drink up waters in abundance.

You know how our movie stars are. Well, at several points Jesus too was a star.
Yes, when he fed the five thousand with bread and fish? And when he healed all of
the sick and lame and possessed in a village? He was famous then. But when he told
tough lessons and tough truths, the mobs walked off, and he was left with twelve.
Out of those hundreds and thousands who had seen his miracles.

(Psalms 73:3)
3 For I envied the arrogant
   when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

If only I wasn't a Christian, I could... (I want you to fill in that blank a couple
of times. I've thought of plenty of things myself that I've had to work hard to give
up or never do in the first place.)
We focus on what we've 'lost' by being Christian.. Do we not remember what we have
gained? How short our memories are! How fickle our hearts!

(Psalms 73:16-17)
16 When I tried to understand all this,
   it troubled me deeply
17 till I entered the sanctuary of God;
   then I understood their final destiny.

When we pray, when we praise, when we talk among one another in church, and when we
read God's word: we humble ourselves and remember just who God is. What He has
promised. What He has done and continues to do for us all.

(Psalms 73: 18-20)
 18 Surely you place them on slippery ground;
   you cast them down to ruin.
19 How suddenly are they destroyed,
   completely swept away by terrors!
20 They are like a dream when one awakes;
   when you arise, Lord,
   you will despise them as fantasies.

God has told us the fate of sinners without God. People, our time on this planet is
short. So let us not store up treasures here, but in heaven. Let us wave these
things goodbye, not desperately try to experience all we can, all of the things we
are asked not to do because we 'only live once'. FEH!

We are all sinners, but you and I are sinners with God.

Its not about what they have today, but where they are tomorrow. ( There's a certain
character who comes to mind from Philippians 3. "But whatever were gains to me I now
consider loss")

(Psalms 73:28 )
28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.
   I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
   I will tell of all your deeds.

Don't be sidetracked by the score in the middle of the game. Because we know how it

Here's a song that comes to mind.

So often is sin compared to chains. Why is that? Well, what is sin? Sin is that
which is not good for us(duh), because it takes rather than gives, it imprisons
rather than frees. Though many people say otherwise and they do look so tempting and
nice. I've had my own addictions, and I still struggle. When I give in, I am owned
by them. And even when I don't feel guilt, I am worse off and miserable. God truly
seeks what is best for us, and by definition that which is best is what makes us the
most joyful in the end. It is what we gain the most from. It is what makes life
worth living.

Do not envy sinners. "If only I wasn't a Christian I could..." Those are things we
are better off without. Trust that we are.
