"I love you
Oh, yes I do."
You whisper ever
so silently into
my ever listening ear.

I whisper back
"Tomorrow I will
take the train so
far off the planet
no one will know
where my heart stopped."

I hear the gasp in
your throat because
you could see no
hesitation in mine.

I laughed and stroked
your face.
"Shh, dear... I'll
finally be my parents
super hero."

You did a little flip
and your eyes stared into
mine and I saw the fear
as you gripped my hands.

I kissed your lips
"The blue sky won't
call and the ocean won't
moan. You know you're
Poseidon. Won't you let
me go?"

The tears rolled and
thunder cracked because
you knew in the morn
I would be gone.

I let you cry the ocean
and scream the atmosphere.
I had to let you know I
loved you some how.

I touched your face.
"The wind sets everything
free. So, I will leave my
window wide and you will have
nothing to worry over."

Your eyes stared into
mine and there were
things no one could imagine.

You whimpered and in your
tears I saw the begging
of the weak man.

I smiled.
"Grant me my last wish
oh genie. I don't want
your pity or sympathy.
I don't need you to
empathize with me."

You bowed your head
into my chest and wrapped
your scared arms around
my waist because you
knew what I wanted.

I made this night
mean more than any
other because I knew
I needed to remember
and so did you.

You awoke in the morning
to an empty bed and blank
walls. You smiled because
the window was cracked.

" She always was the smoke
no man could catch in a jar.
My Marie."

You lay on the note I left.
Of course you read it aloud.

"My ride will be short.
Oh, my Poseidon don't
make the ocean moan.
You know that I would
come home."

The wind stirred
He came to terms.

"I loved you,
My Marie."
