I blinked a few times. The smile on my face was gone. And I wouldve stayed like
that if Johnny hadnt tapped me on my shoulder and asked, Hey, Alice? Are you okay?
I turned around and shook my head weakly. Johnny was my age and was a good friend to
have around. He was admitted into the orphanage a year before me. He had surprisingly
blue eyes for a boy. And those same baby blue eyes stared at me quizzically, his
eyebrows raised. Whats up? You dont look too good. You sick? I shook my head
again and swallowed. Then I stepped aside and pointed a shaky finger at the me in the
cafeteria. He blinked. Wow, she sure looks like you. Come on, Ill go introduce us.
He pulled me into the room and towards the table she was sitting at, while I as still
in a daze. Hi, Im Johnny, and, he tapped her on the shoulder and grinned, you...
he gulped and his smile faded. sure look like someone I know.
I involuntarily staggered backwards and nearly fell on one of the hard metal
tables. It didnt hurt, though. Nothing seemed to exist except for the girls smiling
face, which was focusing on me. Johnny was right. She did look like me. Too
much like me. I regained my composure and stuck out a shaking hand. "N-Nice to meet
you," I stammered, "I-I'm Alice." I could see Johnny was as shocked as me, though,
his mouth was slightly open and he was opening and shutting it like a fish out of
water. The girl smiled even wider, and said, "Hey, Alice. Boy, we sure look like
twins, don't we?" She put an arm around Lavender's shoulders, who was smiling just as
wide. "You could even say I'm your clone." Lavender laughed. Haha, yeah,
clone. Haha...ha. Not so funny. Her other arm pushed me down to sit beside her and
smiled sweetly at Johnny. "Won't you join us, Johnny?"
I did not enjoy my breakfast that day, much as I knew it was delicious. I
wanted to vomit. And I had a pretty good idea who to vomit on. But I kept my mouth
shut throughout the meal, while Alice - "My name's Alice too! What a
coincidence, eh?" - chatted amiably with Lavender about herself. I noticed Johnny was
the same as me, silently chewing his breakfast while he was getting dizzy from
thinking about how everything wasn't making sense. Calm down, I told myself, it's
just a girl who looks just like you, talks with your voice, smiles like you. Dresses
like you. I sighed and said, "I'm sorry if Johnny and me seemed a little...surprised
at first. I'm not used to seeing clones of myself." I forced a smile and she laughed.
"No problemo!" Well. At least she doesn't talk like me.
