This year, my friend and i were both chosen to go to the spelling bee and represent
our class. She didn't do all that well. She's very smart, but she spelled dreary
'dreery'! She wsa upset because she said, all her life, she had been spelling it that
way, and non one cared enough to correct her. Most of the words were easy. I mean, I
got; fiesta, chocolate, hazard, and sugar!
Another friend of mine, a gr.8 boy, and I were the top three. My friend got 'barrow'.
She thought it was barrel! She even said barrel! No one corrected her! So, she got it
So, it was just me, and the boy. He got a word, then I got anopther word, the nhe
spelled his next word wrong! Instantly, a look of pure terror shot on my face! I
thought I would have to spell another word, so I walked up to the microphone. THe
teachers were giving out the certificates, and the ngave me my medal. I was so.... I
can't even describe it! I was happy, but sad, and excited, but really scared! I was
sad because Mary-Catherine should go. I was happy because I won. I was excited to go
to the competition, but at the same time, I was afraid to go too!
I also went to the speech competition for the senior devision of my school. My
friend, the one that got out on dreary, went too. My speech was on Obsessions. Hers
was on 'If We Should Take the Troops out of Afganistan'. I was the fifth speaker, she
was the tenth. When it was coming to my turn, I was going over my speech in my head,
and getting more nervous by the second. It was my turn, and I nailed it! When my
friend went, she messed up, just a tiny bit though!
So, we all sat there, waiting for the results. Then, the judge came out, and gave a
teacher the results. A boy named Matthew saw them. He told one of the girls that she
got second, then I found out I got first. I thought he was lying, but appartly not.
My friend got an honourable mention, then they started giving out the medals. When
they got to first, I was on the verge of fainting. And the, it happened, they called
my name. I HAD WON! I was so scared, but then I thought to myself 'I should probably
look happy', so I smiled, shook the teachers' hands, and got my medal!
My family is so proud of me, and so is my best friend. She's definitely coming ot
