new story. i've already got a lot of it planned out, so it should be a short wait
between chapters. well, at least at the beginning. ;]
Avery walked into her history class like any other normal day. She sat down at the
table in the back corner, waved at some of her friends, and started talking to
Melanie, who sat down next to her.
"I can't believe that winter break's already over!" exclaimed Melanie, as she threw
her brand new messenger bag onto the floor. "I'm so not ready for school to start."
"Well, at least you had an exciting break. I mean, Christmas in New York? You're so
lucky." Avery sighed.
Melanie was thinking of some comforting words to cheer up her friend when the bell
rang. Ms. Collins motioned for the class to stand up, and as if on cue, the
announcements came on over the loudspeaker. After saying the pledge of allegiance,
the class resumed their seats and chattered on through the rest of the announcements.
About twenty minutes into class, Ms. Collins was rambling on about the post-classical
European civilization. Everyone in class had their heads down, trying to ignore her
loud, raspy voice.
"And so, Charles Martel, one of the founders of the Carolingian dynasty, defeated
the Muslims at the Battle of Tours in 732. His son was Pepin, and his grandson was
Charlemagne, who in 800, had built a substantial empire-" She was interrupted by the
door opening, and a rather confused looking teenager walked inside.
Avery, along with the rest of the class was jolted awake with this sudden
interruption. "Dang, he's hot," whispered Melanie. Avery didn't disagree, he was very
attractive, but he also looked really familiar.
"Melanie, don't we know him from somewhere?"
Melanie though for a moment, the replied, "I've never seen him before; maybe he's
just got one of those familiar faces or something."
"Maybe," replied Avery, still not convinced.
"Ms. uh...Collins?" the boy asked as he looked down at the paper he was holding.
"Yes, that's me. May I help you?"
"Today's my first day, and this schedule I got at the office said to come here."
She took the paper from his hand and looked it over. "Oh yes, I did receive an email
this morning alerting me that I would have a new student." She pointed to an empty
seat at the table near the window. "You may sit there, next to Michael. But first,
please introduce yourself, um.." She looked back down at the schedule. "Patrick.
Class, please welcome your new peer, Patrick."
Patrick, Patrick, who did she know named Patrick? There was Patrick in her Anatomy
class, and Mr. Patrick, her neighbor, but Avery couldn't figure out who this new kid
"Actually, Ms. Collins, I go by Zane," the new kid started to say. Then it hit
Avery. She knew exactly who this was.
