One thing that annoys me is when people justify their views by saying "It's my
opinion!". When did you believing something mean that it was right? It's ridiculous.
Opinions are for things like musical taste and artwork, not for debate.
I had a theory on why this has become the case though. I read once that a large
percentage of the population are incapable of abstract thought, that is to say that
they are incapable of considering just an idea, without their own views polluting it.
This will explain how people can justify their hate for homosexuality with their
disgust, because they cannot consider homosexuality apart from their own prejudices.
This is where opinions came in, people needed something which meant they could
consider other peoples views as valid. So they came up with opinions, which enabled
them to consider another persons view. This then mutated, however, into people
thinking that just because it was their opinion, that made it right.
That's about it really.
