"Hey," he said, smiling. I smiled back and dropped my duffel bag to the floor.
"Where is everyone?" I asked, sitting on the chair next to him. He pointed his finger
down the hall.
"Mom and Kayla are brushing their hair-dad's in the garage." I nodded. Kayla appeared
in the doorway of the kitchen then.
"Oh, hi, Mindi," she greeted me. I smiled. "Hey."
The sibling's mom called from her bedroom, "Get in the car, guys!" I picked up my
duffel bag and trooped after Lance and Kayla to the car. Lance took my bag and flung
it into the back.
"Thanks," I said, and then climbed into the white SUV. It took about three hours to
get to the beach. Once we got there, though, it was worth it. It was only noon, and
we had time to swim and make sandcastles. Kayla grabbed her suitcase and ran into the
beach house, me following her with my red Trail Blazers duffel bag.
"Change into your swimsuit fast!" Kayla said excitedly. She thrashed around in her
suitcase until she found her swimsuit: a pink two-piece with white stripes. I hurried
into one of the bathrooms and changed into mine: a red bikini with black polka-dots
and Mickey Mouse on the bottom piece.
"Come on!" I yelled to the closed door of the bathroom. Kayla swung open the door and
ran outside to the sand, me following and gaining speed to the water.
I crashed into the waves and danced around like a maniac, not noticing Kayla staring
at me like a freak. I finally stopped, panting.
"What?" I inquired innocently.
"I'm gonna go to the snack bar and get a ice cream bar," she said quickly, and ran
off. I looked to the snack bar and saw two eighth grade boys sitting on the stools
there. I shook my head at her.
"Mindi!" I looked over and Lance splashed me in the face. I spat out the water in my
mouth; the salt was disgusting!
"Lance!" I kicked my foot and water splashed over his swim trunks. I looked at his
upper body and saw he had flat hard abs. Abs I would lay against.
