here's chapter 2. =]
Class continued to proceed as normal, but Avery couldn't seem to focus. Why is he
here? she thought. The last time she saw "Zane", she was seven years old. And it
was on the other side of the country. After history, Avery went on to Calculus. No
sign of Zane, which was good; she needed to concentrate in that class. However, when
she got to Spanish, she found none other than Zane sitting in her seat. Before she
could say anything to him though, Señora Garcia approached her.
"Buenos dias, Avery."
"Buenos dias, Señora Garcia."
"Please, take a seat anywhere, it's the new semester, let's start fresh!" With that,
Avery moved over to her old seat, and took the one directly behind it. She reached
forward to tap Zane on the shoulder, when all of a sudden, he turned around, leaving
Avery pointing at his nose.
"Am i in your seat?" he asked.
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
"Lucky guess." They switched places. He didn't seem to recognize her. "I'm Zane, by
the way." No, he definitely didn't recognize her.
"I know." He looked confused. "You're in my history class."
Avery sat in silence for a moment, deciding whether or not she should tell him who
she was. Well, he was bound to figure out some time. "I'm Avery." It still didn't
seem to register to him, but she just turned around and started working on her
warm-up. About ten minutes later, a note fell onto her desk from behind her.
she scribbled back:
ding ding ding, we have a winner.
holy crap, avery why didn't you say anything? wait, you do know who i am,
duhh. i was waiting to see how long it took you.
this is too weird.
so, what exactly are you doing here? aren't you supposed to be in califonia?
i wish. you see..hold on. your mom didn't tell you?
tell me what?
um, never mind.
no, seriously, i'm starving.
i'm not telling.
Avery had started to respond when Señora Garcia caught her and told her to put it
away. After that, Spanish dragged on for what seemed like an eternity. When the bell
finally rang, Avery quickly gathered her stuff and headed out of the classroom.
"Wait up!" She turned around to see Zane scrambling toward her. They walked to the
cafeteria in silence. "So...you really don't know why I'm here?"
"Not a clue."
"Well, I'll tell you, but-" Just then, Melanie bounced up to them, and Zane promptly
stopped speaking. After waiting in line to get their usual chicken sandwich and
chocolate milk, Avery and Melanie joined Zane at the empty table he was sitting at.
