Swearing doesn't make you funny OR original.Category: i accidentally the internet

After seeing a good friend of mine post an entry against swearing, I thought I'd write my own entry about it... I saw the replies he got about swearing. Apparently, swearing now makes you funny, interesting, cool and original? Haha. :P Riiiight. Like it takes talent to swear every other sentence. Anyway. I thought I'd voice my own opinion, since I can never keep quiet about this kind of stuff. :3 It's really irritating to see Kupikans on the FT, posting board or anywhere else -- just swearing because they CAN. Is it really necessary? It certainly isn't funny or cute, so why do it? I think kids just swear nowadays because they can -- or because everyone else does. It's ridiculous... but everyone seems to do it. I haven't met a single person in my life who hasn't swore at least once. So I'm asking: Why DO people swear? My dad does it all the time. He swears every other word. However, he never allows me to swear. If I do, he'd probably kill me. XD Not that I would! I was taught that swearing wasn't very becoming, charming or polite. I was also told that it doesn't take any talent or skill to curse and I strongly believe that. Anyone can do it. Then again, it's probably just all the "scene" and "emo" kids who think it's funny or cute or something. o_O; "I can say da f-word! LOLZ!" "I done gone n caught da swine flu! but more importantly, i can say the s-word". Geez, Kupika. XD; This place is too much... ALSO: I don't have anything against swearing or people who do. I just don't think it's as "funny" or ~*~original~*~ as everyone thinks it is. Really. XP

I swear a lot, but I don't do it to be funny or original. Anyone who
does needs a kick in the pants, then they'll see what REALLY warrants

I think it's only appropriate to express extreme emphasis about
something in a negative light, but even then, I'm sure there are other
words one could use. The thing about swearing is that it
doesn't require talent, not that it does. It's easy if you're
stuck for a word to make whatever you're trying to convey just as
strong as you need to make it, and don't have the vocabulary to find a
better one. Of course I find that pretty sad, and encourage people to
improve their vocabulary, but sometimes it's possible that it
could be warranted. Perhaps we don't think so because we don't see the
importance of the matter in our own mind as compares to the user's.

BUT swearing every other word all. the. time. is NOT going to express
emphasis at all. It's like the boy who cried wolf in that situation -
when something really is important to emphasise, swearing won't cut
it, won't make it stand out, it's just another sentence you've put
together in your everyday speech.

I think learning not to swear is beneficial, however. There isn't much
reason to have to swear - really. Not swearing online and in
places you could be recognised will improve your social standing with
people who are usually worth your time. I guess that's opinion-based,
but people I've met who swear a lot tend to be drama-queens, druggies,
grow up into crime, become a delinquent, or even just lead a double
life. It's comparable to spelling properly to me - if you do it often
enough, when it comes time to not do it for something, should it be a
job or scholarship or further education, where they aren't going to
help you, or whatever else have you, it's easier and less stressful on
YOU if you're already doing it. That way you can focus on the other
things that are also important. On the job-front, if you have your
name on myspace or something and swear all the time, have
CourtneyCUNTFUCK;; or whatever as your username, and your potential
employer sees it and happens to NOT be a part of this ~craze~ or fad
you're in, you're not going to be taken seriously or professionally by

It's just not worth getting yourself into bad habits. I have some odd
hobbies that wouldn't float well on the surface of the job-front, but
at least I can explain that my dolls are based on adult hobby kits,
and that Lolita is not kiddy porn but rather the name of a fashion I'm
interested in. You can't dispute your use of swear words in any
convincing way.

I love swearing in certain situations, just because it makes certain
things sound so much more emphatic and/or amusing.

My English teacher and I once talked about sweaing, and she said that
she loves the creativity of swearing, and that swearing could be
really useful. I replied, "Absof~ckinglutely!" and she just laughed at
said that was a good one. I was maybe 16 or 17 at this point though,
she probably cares when the kids swear. xD

I agree. What's so amusing with swearing?

I also hate how they abuse the drooling smiley.

I wish they'd learn some maturity and not over-abuse.

You are so right! swearing's not cool or original! It's horrible,
it's abuse, and on one of my diaries about Christianity, some guy
called Bon kept writing F*** every five words! It was my opinion, he
had no right to judge that!!!

I swear because I can't help it. I used to swear for the fun of it
and now I can't help it when I do

Instead on F*ck I usually say Friggin' and I say it all the time x]
