We were on stage. I took a deep breath and looked over at the person who was sitting
calmly at a table drinking coffee.
"Hello America," he said. "My name's Pete Robinson and we're here today live with the
$1000 prize winning girls."
He beckoned us on stage. We sat down in the comfy blue chairs and Pete held the mic
"What's your name girls?" he asked.
"Well, I'm Nikki and these are my friends Ella and Gwen."
"How did you find out you won this $1000?"
"Well," I said. "We were just getting back from helping the police and the phone was
"Helping with the police?" Pete looked surprised. "Please, tell us. Oh, and I love
your make-up by the way."
"Thanks," I said. "Well, recently I have met this boy and it's a long story, believe
me. Are you sure you want to hear it?"
"Are we?" said Pete, turning his head to look into the camera. "Oh yes."
So I told them. I explained the whole story in detail too.
"Fascinating!" said Pete. "Okay, let's move on. What's your name again, love?"
"Hiya, Gwen. So, where you part of this amazing story that Nikki has just told us?"
"Yep, we all were," said Gwen confidently, her eyes sparkling. She was looking half
into the camera, half at Pete, just like a professional.
"So, do you have anything else you want to spill?" asked Pete. "What about you,
He looked at Ella. Ella opened her mouth to speak, but choked on her words. She shook
"Oh, surely you must have! Well, where do you come from?"
"We come from England," said Ella. She was clear but nowhere near as good as Gwen and
me. (I'm not bragging!)
"Oh England!" Pete smiled. "Is it nice there? I must admit, I've never visited
"It's quite boring, actually," chipped in Gwen, rolling her eyes. "You can
never depend on the weather and there's not much to do."
"Not much to do?" Pete said. "Really? Hmm, that's very interesting. Now, how do you
girls fancy performing something for us?"
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Oh, like anything you're talented at. Dancing, singing? We have loads of CDs here,
probably 90% of all the CDs made."
"Woah, that's impressive," I exclaimed. "But I'll let Gwen and Ella decide if they
want to perform. I really don't mind."
"Ah, good friend," said Pete. "Well, Ella and Gwen?"
"We have a dance routine," said Gwen. "Maybe we could perform that?"
"Yep, that would be great!" said Pete, leaning back in his chair. "Wow, this is
turning out to be a very interesting interview. Don't you agree girls? Right, Nikki,
go into the music tech room and select your music."
I nodded at him and exited the stage into the room marked 'Music'.
"And now, America, we'll be taking a short break. Enjoy these adverts!" He waited
until the camera man gave him a thumbs up and then left the stage.
"That was great girls," he said, nodding at us. "We'll be going back on in five
minutes. Make sure you're ready and waiting on the stage." He smiled at us and then
went off to get a drink.
"This is so exciting," said Gwen.
Ella just nodded. I could see little beads of sweat on her forehead.
"Are you OK? Well, I must get to the music room. We're going to perform our dance
live to America! The peeps back home won't believe this!"
"I know, I'll phone all our parents to get them to watch the show!" said Gwen,
getting out her mobile.
"Great idea!" I said, going into the music room. I selected our song - Glamorous By
The music worker nodded and slipped the CD into place. He signalled a thumbs up sign
to the camera man and then sat back in his chair.
I went back out into the foyer, where Ella and Gwen were waiting to get back on
stage. Pete came through the door.
"Hi, have you got the music sorted?" he asked, as he came over to us.
"Yep," I answered.
"Great," he said. "Right, let's get back on stage. Ready to perform?"
"I think so," I said, wiping my forehead and following Pete back onto the stage. The
camera man in front of us showed on his fingers 5 4 3 2 1 and then the camera started
"And we're back," said Pete. "Live with our monthly winners who said they are going
to treat us with a performance. Tell us more, Nikki."
"Well, Ella and I are going to dance while Gwen sings."
"And what are you dancing and singing to?"
"Glamorous - By Fergie."
"Oh good choice," said Pete. "Right, now girls, step to the front and the music will
start when you're ready."
He handed Gwen a mic and then moved his chair back a little bit. He took another sip
of tea and then sat back, his hands together.
"When you're ready, girls."
The lights dimmed down and we were left in spotlights. I glanced over at Ella and
Gwen, who were looking at me. I gave them a last reassuring smile and the music
started. I turned my head forward again towards the camera. I started dancing with
Ella, and Gwen sung beautifully.
'We're flying first class,
Up in the sky,
Livin ma life
In the fast lane,
And I won't change, by the glamorous, oh the flossy flossy.'
We danced and sung and at the end the lights flashed and we took a bow.
"Well, that concludes our show today," said Pete, clapping as he got up. He put his
arms around us and handed us a H-U-G-E cheque for $1000. "Join us next week for more.
The cameras swivelled across the stage and I gave a last wave. The camera was now
switched off. I rushed off stage with Ella and Gwen.
"That was so cool!" I screamed. I was breathing really fast now.
Pete came up to us. "Brilliant, girls. Absolutely brilliant!"
(Sorry that was very long)
